Matt Carbone got off to a great start. For three innings he put down the vaunted Morris Hills offense (6-1) without allowing a hit. In the first inning a walk to Evan Chang and singles by Eric Della Piazza and Tim Spangler gave Summit a 1-0 lead going into the top of the 4th inning. In the top of the 4th the Morris Hills bats finally got to Carbone. Six hits, including a home run, and one walk produced 5 runs. Summit gained back 2 runs. Spangler was walked to start the inning and Fred Westphalen singled. A wild pitch moved the runners to 2nd and 3rd. Sam Rose drove in Spangler with an infield out and Marc Shahata did the same for Westphalen.
In the 5th inning Morris Hills and Summit traded runs. Summit's run came as Kevin Lackaye led off with a single and Evan Chang drove a ball deep to right that was dropped by the right fielder. Eric Della Piazza singled to drive in Lackaye. So things were still looking pretty good starting the 6th inning with the score 6-4. Unfortunately, Morris Hills scored 3 runs in their part of the 6th. Summit's bottom of the 6th started well. Sam Rose led off with a double and Shahata singled to put runners as 1st and 3rd with no outs. Sadly, Shahata was out stealing and 2 outs ended the threat.
