Summit's final home game drew a larger than normal crowd. They were treated to an exciting and dramatic game. Sadly, the final outcome was disappointing. West Essex jumped on starter Kevin Lackaye for 4 runs in the 1st inning, including a solo homerun on the 4th pitch of the game. Summit battled back to tie the score at the end of 2 innings. WE regained the lead in the 4th with 2 runs and Summit answered with 1 run in the bottom of the inning. WE took a 7-5 lead with another run in their 6th. But Summit came storming back with a 2 out rally that yielded 5 run and left the score 10-7 in Summits favor going into the 7th inning. West Essex rallied with 4 runs to regain the lead 11-10. Undaunted, Summit came to tie the score and send it to extra innings. WE scored an unearned run in the top of the 8th to make it 12-11. Summit managed to get runners at 1st and 2nd with 2 out, but couldn't bring them home.
Summit Scoring:
1st Inning: Evan Chang had a one out single, Eric Della Piazza was hit by a pitch. Sam Rose singled to drive in Chang. Della Piazza scored on a wild pitch and Rose scored on a error by the pitcher,
2nd Inning: Tim Donnally singled and went to second on a error. He advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Marc Shehata and scored on an infield ground ball by Eddie Hagan
4th Inning: Shehata doubled and scored on an error by the third baseman
6th inning: Singles by Kevin McAvey, Shehata, Hagan and Rose, plus a triple by Della Piazza resulted in 5 runs.
7th Inning: A single by Fred Westphalen, a sacrifice bunt by McAvey and single by Shehata produced the game tieing run.
