Kevin Lackaye pitched another complete game victory. He allowed only 4 hits and 1 earned run. Until the 6th inning, every time Summit scored a run in the top of an inning West Essex answered with a run in the bottom of the inning. In the 2nd inning Sam Rose was walked and was driven in by a Kevin McAvey double. WE got their run on an error and a single. In the 4th Summit loaded the bases on 2 walks and a hit batter. A single by Evan Chang scored Marc Shahata. WE picked up their run on a single and a couple of wild pitches. Finally, in the 6th, Summit scored scored an unanswered run. McAvey started the inning with a single, moved to 2nd on a sacrifice bunt by Tim Donnally and got to 3rd on an error. McAvey scored on a infield out by by Chang.
The Summit 7th began with a new WE pitcher, the starter having thrown 105 pitches through 6 innings. The new pitcher started by walking Tim Spangler. Then with one out Sam Rose smashed a triple to give Summit a needed insurance run. Marc Shahata walked and stole 2nd. Donnally provided a sharp single to right center to drive in two more runs and put the game out of reach.
Lackaye, after giving up the run in the 4th, retired the last 9 batters that he faced. Summit left 11 runners stranded while WE had a total of only 7 runner for the full game. Lackaye is now sporting a nifty 1.35 ERA, with only 5 walks in 26 innings pitched.
