Turnovers were the undoing of Summit. After an even 1st half, five 2nd half turnovers spelled doom for the Hilltoppers. Just before the beginning of the 4th quarter Summit had 4 possessions in a row that ended quickly with interceptions. Two of those interceptions were returned for touchdowns. The other two gave Parsippany the ball on the Summit 25 and 20 yard lines. In both cases Parsippany scored with relative ease. The result was a storm of 26 unanswered points by Parsippany.
The game began on a upbeat note. Summit took the opening kickoff and scored in 8 plays. Four carries by Tarvis Marchell and 2 by Edgar Ozols put the ball on the Parsippany 25. From there Ozols scampered in for the TD. The defense stopped Parsippany and they were forced to punt. But on Parsippany's 2nd possession they marched 81 yards in 10 plays to knot the game at 7-7. Summit's next possession ended with a lost fumble at midfield. Parsippany popped a 47 run to the Summit 3. The defense stiffened and with aid of two 5 yard penalties forced a missed 23 yard field goal . On Summit's final possession of the half they mounted a 7 play series that gave Summit a 1st down. at Parsippaany 10 yard line. The big plays were a 20 yard run by Marchell and a 27 yard Ozols pass to Matt Ruark. Ultimately, Summit was forced to try a 19 yard field goal. Unfortunately, the kick went wide left.
The second half was all Parsippany because Summit's first five possessions of the 2nd half ended in turnovers.
