9/17 Irvington H Won 39 - 0, the Hilltoppers got off to a fast start when Ryan Hislop scored on the 1st play of the game on a 65 yard TD run.  After an impressive first defensive series Summit then scored on it’s first play of the next series when QB Chet Joffe connected with WR Tony Masterfano for a 35 yard TD pass.  Ryan Hislop scored on another TD run of 12 yards and later FB Peter Badgley added his 1st TD of the season on a 2 yard run.  The defense was led by the strong play of LB’s Logan Jeffries, Nick Oristanio, and Joe Lenz as well as DT’s Michael Stewart and Jerome Madrigal who picked up a fumble and returned it for a TD.  CB/K Timmy Yager also had a fumble recovery, but had 2 of his 5 PAT’s blocked, although he did close out the Hilltopper scoring for the day when he connected on a 26 yard FG Lost 20-21 vs.Westfield .  After digging themselves into a 14-0 first half hole the B team came out to start the 3rd quarter with vengeance.  On their first series Tommy Celmer to a reverse 56 yards for a TD.  A missed PAT gave Westfield a 14-6 lead.  Westfield then charged down the field and scored another TD to take a 21-6 lead.  On Summit's next play they immediately answered with a 65 yard TD pass from Johnny Shaffer to David KalinJohnny Shaffer then converted the PAT to narrow the margin to 21-14 to end the 3rd quarter.  After a battle of possessions and with less than 2 minutes to play Summit put together a final drive that started with a Tommy Celmer 25 yard punt return bringing the ball to the 22.  With less than 30 second to go Johnny Shaffer hit Luke Stephens with a 12 yd TD pass bringing the score to 20-21.  Summit unfortunately missed the ensuing PAT to end the dramatic comeback attempt. Won 29-14.

9/24 Springfield A

Won 12 - 0, Playing on a bad field under the tough conditions of rain and wind and on a day when the offense struggled to get going and continually hurt itself with penalties against a tough Springfield team, it was the Hilltopper defense that led the way.  The tone for the day was set early when MLB Nick Oristanio faced up in the hole and drilled the Minutemen FB with one of the hardest and best hits you will ever see.  From that point on the Hilltopper defense dominated and completely bottled up the Springfield offense which could not generate anything the rest of the day.  DE’s Michael Negron and Spenser Huston along with LB’s Logan Jeffries, Joe Lenz and Sam Compton as well as DT Michael Stewart made sure anyone carrying the ball knew it was going to be a long day by totally dominating things up front.  The secondary which was patrolled by FS Michael Ford and CB’s Justin Cyrus and Timmy Yager completely shut down the Minutemen passing game and both Justin Cyrus and Timmy Yager each had interceptions and Yager also defended and broke up 3 other passes.  The offense which struggled all day did manage to score a TD in the 1st half when HB Ryan Hislop was able to punch it in from the 3 yard line, after QB Chet Joffe set it up with a 40 yard run.  The highlight in the 2nd half was a leaping grab over the middle by WR Michael Haines who took a big hit from the Springfield MLB, but managed to hang onto the ball.  The other score was another TD run by HB Ryan Hislop.  The Hilltoppers then moved FB Peter Badgley to HB and with the lead blocking of FB Michael Strelzik managed to kill the clock and get the win.

Won 19-6.  The B-team had another exciting game filled with big plays.  Johnny Shaffer had 3 TD passes for 65, 65 & 45 yards with 2 of them connecting with David Kalin and the other to Tommy CelmerAndrew Miller ran for the lone PAT to secure the 19-6 win.  The offensive line of Andrew Perry, Hany Castaneda, Tyler Reinmund, Willy Woodward, Kyle Coty & Will Weber was dominating.  The strong defense was led by leading tacklers Stefano Stadlinger, Matt Miller, Jamie Ogden, Kohl Geibel, Alex Fiorito and Ben BallintyMatt Miller had a fumble recovery, Brendan Wood had an interception and Connor Weid had a blocked extra point.

Won 39 -14.
RB Jamie White rushed for three TDs and two PATs. QB Mike Badgley ran for one TD and kicked one PAT. WR Kyree Negron scored one TD on reception from Badgley. FB Ausitn Carbone capped off the Summit scoring by rushing for the final TD. Summit's O-Line was lead by OL Aaron Davis and OL Will Daney. The Hilltopper D-Line was lead by DT Joe Szymanski and DT Demetrius Young. Summit held the Springfield Minutemen scoreless in the fourth quarter with drive stopping tackles by LB Drew Higgins and the tackle of the game by DB Elgin Ravenell.
10/1 Berkeley Heights A
Won 24 – 14, After a great opening series on defense where the Hilltoppers forced a punt by the Highlanders, things went bad when the punt was fumbled and recovered by the Highlanders.  Then working with a short field Berkeley Hgts managed to score and added to extra point to take an 8 - 0 lead.  Meaning the Hilltoppers were trailing for the 1st time this season.  It didn’t get much better for Summit when they were forced to punt and then gave up a big pass play for a TD, but the Highlanders missed the extra point, which left the score at 14 - 0QB Chet Joffe didn’t have one of his better days throwing the ball, but used his feet to run for significant gains which set up a TD run by HB Ryan Hislop and CB/K Timmy Yager converted the extra point to cut the deficit to 14 - 8.  After a Hilltopper turnover deep in Highlander territory Berkeley Hgts then went to the air, but MLB Nick Oristanio stepped in front of the intended pass for the interception and refused to be brought down.  He returned it for the tying TD and with Timmy Yager again converting the extra point the Hilltoppers had the lead 16 - 14 at the half.  The 2nd  half the Hilltopper defense got back to it’s dominating ways with DT Michael Stewart, DE Spenser Huston, LB Logan Jeffries, LB Nick Oristanio and LB Joe Lenz playing a lot of the game as Defensive linemen led the way for the 2nd half shut out.  CB Timmy Yager had another interception which lead to another TD run by Ryan Hislop, in which FB Peter Badgley paved the way with a great block and with Timmy Yager converting his 3rd extra point of the day the scoring was closed out for the day at 24 - 14.  Designated clock eater Peter Badgley was moved from FB to HB and again with the lead blocking of FB Michael Strelzik killed the remaining time to seal the Hilltopper victory.

Won 12-0.  After an offensive drive that lasted more than the entire 1st quarter the B-team failed to capitalize getting any points on the scoreboard.  The defense then shut down BH's offense and took advantage of a bad snap to their punter.  Johnny Shaffer finished off the next drive with a 1 yard dive over right tackle.  After a 6-0 half time lead Summit's defense again held BH's offense to minimal yards and David Kalin ran a sweep for a 16 yard TD.  Stefano Stadlinger had 6 tackles, Alex Fiorito had 5 and Brendan Wood had 2 interceptions for a defense that gave up minimal yards on the day. Won 27-6. The Hilltopper defense came alive against the Berkeley Hights Highlanders with an early goal line stand lead by DE Tyler Carbone, DT Joe Szymanski, NT Robert Chase, DT Will Daney, DE Justin Gump, OLB Nick Watts, MLB Jamie White, MLB Will Shamim, OLB Austin Carbone, DB Dillion Confalone and DB Mike Badgley. RB Jamie White rushed for three TDs and three PATs. WR Kyree Negron scored one TD on reception from QB Mike Badgley. The Summit defense continued their dominance with late game heroics, including an interception by OLB Nick Watts, and sacks by DE Tyler Carbone, DE Justin Gump, DT Andrew Orstainio.
10/02 Montclair Won 16 - 14 over Montclair.  Playing an out of league game on a Thursday the Hilltoppers came out against a very big and talented Montclair team and were impressive right from the start.  After the Hilltopper defense stymied the Montclair offense the Hilltoppers took over and marched right down the field and if not for a penalty that pushed the ball back and gave a tough angle would have taken the lead, but CB/K Timmy Yager’s kick sailed wide right.  After another great defensive effort by the Hilltoppers led by DE Michael Negron and LB/DT Joe Lenz set the Hilltoppers offense up to capitalize.  QB Chett Joffe playing perhaps his most complete game this season so far led a scoring drive with his and RB Ryan Hislop’s running, but the play of the drive was a perfectly thrown ball down the left sideline to WR Tony Masterfano who ran under the ball for the TD and CB/K Timmy Yager tacked on the extra point for a 8 - 0 Hilltopper lead.  When the Hilltoppers got the ball back on offense QB Chett Joffe then hit TE Jackson Stuckey on a short out route that he turned upfield and took in for the TD and a 16 - 0 Hilltopper lead at the half after Yager converted his 2nd extra point.  Masterfano and Stuckey, also each had highlight reel grabs as Masterfano did a nice little toe tap to haul in a pass on the sideline from a scrambling Joffe and Stuckey made a nice leaping grab then to hung on after a big hit from a Cobra defender.  In the second half Montclair mounted a comeback, but were stopped on several occasions by the dominant play of DE Michael Negron who it seemed like was in the Cobra’s backfield all day.  DE Spenser Huston on the other side made life just as miserable for Cobra’s when they tried to run away from NegronLB’s Logan Jeffries and Nick Oristanio did their normal solid job with numerous tackles for loss.  The secondary patrolled by CB’s Griffin Cooper and Timmy Yager along with FS Michael Ford played flawless pass defense and Michael Ford had an interception on a ball that was deflected by Griffin Cooper.  The Hilltoppers have this weekend off and then get back into league play against our old rival and neighbors from New Providence next Sunday.
10/8 Richmond Boro H (8th & 7th grades Forfeit Won 22-19.  Summit came out and dominated the 1st half taking a 22-7 lead.  On their first possession Johnny Shaffer hit Andrew Miller for a 47 yard TD strike.  Luke Stephens converted the PAT with a 3 yard run.  Staten Island immediately fumbled and Johnny Shaffer tossed a 9 yard TD pass to Luke Stephens.  David Kalin ran off tackle for the extra point.  After another dominating defensive series and with less than 3 minutes Shaffer led the team 60 yards with a couple passes to Kalin and an 18 yard run by Tommy Celmer before ultimately hitting Ryan Bringewatt in the endzone on a 5 yard slant.  Shaffer then booted the PAT for the 22-7 halftime lead.  Staten Island came out in the 2nd half determined to get back in the game.  Scoring TDs in both the 3rd and 4th quarters they were on a final attempt when time ran out and the defense came through with a few big losses.  Stefano Stadlinger again led the defense with 10 tackles followed by Ben Ballintyn (9), Alex Fiorito (6), Geron Crawford (5) & Jamie Ogden (5).  Kohl Giebel, Billy Hadley, Kyle Codey & Thomas Lackaye also helped anchor the defense with big plays.

10/8 Livingston H (4th thru 6th Grade) Forfeit
10/15 New Providence A Won 32 - 0, Last season the teams split 2 very close games, but on this day the Hilltoppers left no doubt as to who was the better team.  The Hilltoppers put together their most complete and dominating game of the season.  Summit came out and forced the Hawks to punt on their first possession and the Hilltopper offense went right to work when on the 2nd play from scrimmage QB Chett Joffe went to the air and hit HB Ryan Hislop who was lined up in the slot for a 65 yard TD pass and CB/K Timmy Yager converted the extra point for an 8 - 0 Hiltopper lead.  The Summit defense which was extremely dominant led by LB Joe Lenz and DE Spenser Huston got the ball back for the offense after an interception by CB Justin Cyrus and the Hilltoppers went back to work.  QB Chett Joffe directed a nice drive hitting TE Jackson Stuckey with a couple of passes as well as the running of HB Ryan Hislop got the ball down inside the 10 yard line where FB Peter Badgley moved to HB and with a nice lead block from FB Michael Strelzik punched it in from the 1 for the TD.  After Yager converted his 2nd extra point of the day the Hilltoppers were up 16 - 0 over the Hawks. New Providence trying to mount a comeback decided to go to the air, but CB Timmy Yager stepped in front of the pass for the interception.  Summit wasted no time when on the first play after the turnover the Hilltoppers went to the air again and QB Chett Joffe again hit HB Ryan Hislop down the left sideline for a 55 yard TDTimmy Yager again converted the extra point and the Hilltoppers went to the half with a 24 - 0 lead over the Hawks.  The second half didn’t start well for the Hilltoppers when they pinned themselves deep in their own territory with a few penalties, but after a nice punt by Yager the defense shut down the Hawks offense.  The Hilltoppers then went to their clock killing backfield of Peter Badgley and Michael Strelzik and just pounded the New Providence defense repeatedly with Badgley out of the I-Formation.  The Hawks made an adjustment to this and went to an 8 man front, so the Hilltoppers ran a play action fake and QB Chett Joffe hit WR Tony Masterfano for a 35 yard TD and Joffe’s 3rd TD pass of the day.  After Timmy Yager connected on his 4th extra point the scoring was complete on a 32 - 0 Hilltopper win.

Won 30-8.  A huge win by Summit secured first place in the National Conference.  Summit roared out to a 22-0 first half lead on TD passes from Johnny Shaffer to David Kalin & Luke Stephens and another 55 yard TD run by David KalinKalin had the lone TD of the 2nd half on a 47 yard off-tackle bolt.  Shaffer converted all 3 of his PAT kicks for the additional 6 points.  The scoring was led by the tremendous blocking of Kyle Codey, Tyler Reinmund, Andrew Perry, Hany Castenada, Willy Woodward & Will Weber.  The stifling defense was highlighted with an interception from Shaffer and a fumble recovery by Thomas LackayeStefan Stadlinger, Geron Crawford, Kohl Geibel, Alex Fiorito and Ben Ballintyn punished the NP runners all day. Won 35-19 The Summit Hilltoppers beat the New Providence Hawks at NP to improve their record to 5-0. HB Jamie Whiteran for two TDs and one PAT. QB Mike Badgley ran for one TD, one PAT and kicked a 2 point PAT. QB Dillon Confalone ran for one TD and HB Tyler Carbone ran for one TD. LB Nick Watts and DB Joe Lasaracinolead the defense with interceptions for the Hilltoppers along side of NT Drew Higgins, LB Will Shamim and DB Liam Menning's strong defensive effort. Congratulations on the Summit victory.
10/22 Hanover H Won 13 - 0,  On a day when the Hilltoppers didn’t play anywhere near their ‘A’ game, they came out flat and let a big and physical Hanover team hang in the ballgame.  On the Hilltoppers 1st offensive series QB Chett Joffe had a ball deflected and it was intercepted to end the drive, but after a stop by the defense to force a punt QB Chett Joffe rebounded from the interception and threw a nice ball down the left sideline that HB Ryan Hislop ran under for a 50 yard TDCB/K Timmy Yager converted the extra point and the Hilltopers had an 8 - 0 lead.  The Hilltopper defense shut down the Tigers offense with numerous tackles for loss by DE Spenser Huston and LB Joe Lenz, who both played much of the game along the defensive line in down positions.  LB Nick Oristanio registered another solid performance, which could have been even better had he managed to hang onto 2 balls for interceptions, although the Hilltoppers did get interceptions from LB Logan Jeffries and FS Michael FordQB Chett Joffe directed a nice drive hitting TE Jackson Stuckey with a couple of passes and with a few runs by HB Ryan Hislop and FB Peter Badgley the ball was on the 1 yard line, but Joffe was stopped short on a 4th down QB sneak attempt and Summit gave the ball over to the Tigers on downs.  After a great defensive stand Hanover was forced to punt out of their own end zone, but the snap rolled through the punters legs and out of the end zone for a safety and the Hilltoppers had a 10 - 0 lead.  Summit did manage another nice offensive drive, but it stalled at the 17 yard line and they summoned on CB/K Timmy Yager who nailed the 34 yard FG and stretched the lead to 13 - 0, which was the final on another solid albeit ugly Hilltopper win.  The Hilltoppers close out the regular season with Chatham and a battle for the Division Title and a 1st round playoff bye.

Won 37-0.  QB Johnny Shaffer led the team on both sides of the ball to a 37-0 shutout of visiting Hanover Park.  Shaffer threw 2 TD passes to David Kalin of 15 and 45 yards and strikes to Michael Nitzberg (25 yards) and Jamie Ogden (29 yards).  Shaffer also converted 2 PAT kicks as well as a returning an interception 45 yards for a TD.  Stefano Stadlinger converted a PAT kick for 2 points and Tommy Celmer hit Will Weber on a PAT pass to round out the scoring.  Daniel Gunther had a big off tackle run that was unfortunately called back due to a penalty but responded with a huge 30 yard reception.  The offensive line continued to dominate with many, TD breaking, downfield blocks.  The defensive unit was led by Ben Ballintyn's 9 tackles, Stefano Stadlinger's 7 tackles and Alex Fiorito's 5.  Scott Meagher recorded a fumble recovery in the 4th quarter.  Very impressive defensive efforts by Andrew Kaufman, Aidan Dougherty & Geron Crawford.
Won 34-19. The Summit "C" Team improved their record to 6-0 vs. the Hanover Tigers in their final regular season home game. Hilltopper O-linemen: OT Joe Szymanski, OG Andrew Oristanio, C Robert Chase, OG Connor O'Mally, OG Brendan Huston and OT Will Daney paved the way for the summit running attack. RB Jamie White ran for three TDs and one PAT; RB Tyler Carbone ran for one TD; and QB Mike Badgley ran for one TD and kicked three PATs. The Summit defense was lead by OLB Austin Carbone, MLB Will Shamim,  MLB John Dugan and OLB Nick Watts behind a strong effort of DE Demetrius Young,  NT Drew Higgins and DE John Olivo. Congratulations on the Summit victory.
10/29 Chatham A Won 11 - 0, In a battle for 1st place and a division title at stake the Hilltoppers traveled to Chatham for a match-up with the Cougars.  With heavy winds wreaking havoc with the Hilltopper’s normally effective passing game QB Chett Joffe was asked to manage the game as the Hilltoppers went to their ground game and HB’s Ryan Hislop and Justin Cyrus along with FB Peter Badgley churned out tough yards all day against a stingy Cougar defense, but just couldn’t manage any points.  Seeing how this was going to be a day for the defense to carry the team, the Hilltoppers had solid play from the entire defense.  MLB’s Joe Lenz who played most of the game as a down linemen and Nick Oristanio as well DT’s Michael Stewart and Jerome Madrigal controlled the middle of the field while OLB’s Sam Compton and Logan Jeffries controlled the edges.  When the Cougars went to the air CB’s Justin Cyrus and Timmy Yager as well as FS Michael Ford were there to contest every pass.  The Hilltoppers physically pounded the Cougars all day and LB’s Logan Jeffries and Nick Oristanio delivered big shots to Cougar ball carriers, while DE’s Spenser Huston and Michael Negron were relentless in there pursuit and registered many tackles for loss.  The game remained scoreless into the 4th qtr and Chatham had the ball at midfield when they dropped back to pass, but the game changed when DE Michael Negron came hard charging off the edge and delivered a crushing blind side hit to force a fumble from the Cougar QB.  The Hilltoppers recovered and mounted a short drive that ended at the 8 yard line when QB Chett Joffe was forced out of bounds after a nice gain on a bootleg in which he was escorted by pulling G Joe Lenz who delivered a nice block that almost sprung Joffe into the endzone.  On 4th down the Hilltoppers called on CB/K Timmy Yager to deliver the points and kicking from the right hash and into the heavy wind he connected and delivered the points with a 25 yard FG and the Hilltoppers had a 3 - 0 lead.  With time an issue and needing to move down field quickly the Cougars went to the air.  First they tested CB Timmy Yager with a deep pass, but he and FS Michael Ford were there to defend.  The next Hilltopper defender to be tested was OLB Logan Jeffries on a pass into the flat, but they were denied when he stepped in front, intercepted and returned it for a TD.  After CB/K Timmy Yager converted the extra point the scoring was closed out on another Hilltopper victory at 11 - 0.  With the victory the Hilltoppers closed out an undefeated regular season which earned them a first round playoff bye.  Their next league game will be home at Tatlock on Sunday November 12th at 1:30 pm vs the winner of the 1st round match-up on Sunday November 5th.  Congratulations and good luck in the playoffs. Won 27-0.  Summit clinched first place for the B Division in the National Conference, for the second year in a row, with this shut out.  Summit charged out to a 20-0 first half lead with touchdowns from David Kalin and Andrew Miller.  The first TD came on a 30 yard pass from Johnny Shaffer to Andrew Miller in the first series.  On the next two series David Kalin ran for TDs of 22 and 27 yards.  PATs were scored by Will Weber & Luke Stephens.  The defense gave up a total of 40 yards in the first half while recovering 2 fumbles by Stefano Stadlinger and Phillip Jefferson.  The second half was put to bed early in the 3rd quarter by another Kalin TD run of 18 yards followed up by another Stephens PAT.  Stadlinger grabbed another fumble recovery and Gabe Rissman snagged his first interception of the year.  The defense was again anchored by Geron Crawford, Kohl Geibel, Billy Hadley, Kyle Cody, Alex Fiorito as well as Stadlinger and Jefferson.  The remainder of the game was enjoyed by a host of players playing in a variety of positions.  Summit has a bye for the first round of the playoffs and will meet either New Providence or Berkeley Heights in the semi-finals to be played on Sunday 11/12.
Won 14-7 The Summit "C" team completed their regular season play with an undefeated record of 7-0, beating Chatham 14-7 at Cougar Field. Congratulations on Chatham victory, 1st place finish and first round bye. Next up: Playoffs – Sunday, Nov. 12th @ Metro Homes Field.
Thursday 11/02 Union Won 24 - 8, The annual 8th grade game between the Summit Hilltoppers and Union Farmers was a tightly contested game for the 1st half with the Hilltoppers and Farmers battling it out.  QB Chett Joffe didn’t have a great game throwing the ball against an aggressive Farmer defense, but 3 of the balls that he did complete came on great grabs by RB Ryan Hislop, TE Jackson Stuckey and WR Tony MasterfanoHislop made a nice leaping grab of a ball down the left sideline, while Stuckey’s came on a crossing route where he was upended and managed to hang on the ball and Masterfano’s came on deep ball that was a little off, but he made a nice adjustment to fight off the Farmer defender for the catch.  Joffe may not have had a great passing day, but he did a very nice job of managing the game and the Hilltopper running attack in which HB Ryan Hislop and FB Peter Badgley managed to run through large holes provided by C Max Munoz, G’s Joe Lenz and Nick Oristanio, T’s Spenser Huston and Logan Jeffries as well as T Austin Jennings.  The Hilltoppers jumped on top when QB Chett Joffe scored on QB draw from the 1 yard line and when CB/K Timmy Yager added the extra point the Hilltoppers had a 7 - 0 lead.  However, the lead didn’t last long as the Farmers got back in the game with a 60 yard TD run and when they added on the 2 pt conversion they had the lead and for the only the 2nd time all year the Hilltoppers were behind at 8 - 7, which is where  it stayed until the half.  The Hilltoppers came out for the 2nd half and went to their no-huddle attack on offense and managed to put together a nice drive in which a confused and tired Farmer defense couldn’t adjust.  QB Chett Joffe took it in from the 1 yard line once again for his 2nd rushing TD of the night and CB/K Timmy Yager added the extra point for 14 - 7 Hilltopper lead.  The Hilltopper defense came up big once again with huge plays by DE’s Spenser Huston and Michael Negron as well as DT Jerome Madrigal.  LB’s Joe Lenz and Nick Oristanio had numerous tackles for loss and Oristanio made a great stop when he filled the hole nicely on a 4th down play to kill a Farmer drive.  CB/K Timmy Yager added another interception to his ever growing total to set up another Hilltopper drive and Joffe after directing a short drive rolled out to the left after a play action fake from the 5 yard line and hit TE Jackson Stuckey for the final Hilltopper TDDT Brendan Higgins attempting his 1st career extra point added the point and the Hilltoppers had a 21 - 8 lead.  On the ensuing kickoff the Farmers fumbled, which LB George Campbell recovered and when the drive stalled CB/K Timmy Yager assumed his roll as kicker and added the 22 yard FG for a 24 - 8 lead, which closed out the scoring on another Hilltopper win.

11/12 Conference Championship Won Summit 32 - Chatham 6, In a matchup of Division foes the Summit Hilltoppers and Chatham Cougars squared off for the 2nd time in 3 weeks with the Conference title and a birth in the Super Bowl riding on the game.  The Cougars jumped out to an early lead when they connected on a TD pass that was just out of the reach of CB Timmy Yager, but the score remained 6 - 0, when the extra point was missed.  The Hilltoppers never panicked and QB Chett Joffe directed nice drive with a mix of run and pass that led to a TD run by HB Ryan Hislop and with the extra point added on by CB/K Timmy Yager the Hilltopers had an 8 - 6 lead.  The Hilltoppers then added 2 more scores before the half and went to the half with a 24 - 6 lead.  On this day the Hilltoppers offense was led by the dominating performance of their offensive line T’s Spenser Huston and Logan Jeffries, G’s Nick Oristanio and Joe Lenz and C Max Munoz all provided huge running lanes for Hilltopper ball carriers all day, which led to 4 rushing TD’s on the day - 3 by HB Ryan Hislop and 1 by FB Peter Badgley.  Probably the signature play of the day which showed how dominating the Hiltoppers were up front was a play from their single back set with FB Peter Badgley as the single back when he took the handoff and hit the line between RG Joe Lenz and RT Logan Jeffries he just completely ran through a Cougar linebacker that tried to fill the hole and ended up with a nice 15 yard run.  Although the running game was where the scoring came from the passing game set up the TD’s and QB Chett Joffe hit TE Jackson Stuckey with a pass on one scoring drive and on two others hit WR Tony Masterfano on 2 long completions where he was brought down at the 1 yard line on both, but the Hilltoppers managed to cash in on both with TD runs.  The Hilltoppers went to the half with a 24 - 6 lead and the Cougars were pretty much done for the day.  The second half started out much the way the 1st half ended when on the first play out of shotgun formation QB Chett Joffe faked a handoff to FB Peter Badgley and ran around the right end following the lead block of pulling G Joe Lenz and had a nice 20 yard pick up, which lead to another score and with Yager’s extra point the score was 32 - 6.  The Cougars needing to get back in the game in a hurry and realizing the were having no success running the ball tried the air and felt the need to test CB Timmy Yager again, which this time turned out the Hilltopper way as Yager stepped in and intercepted the ball.  The Hilltoppers defense which also forced 3 fumbles on the day was dominating throughout the day with numerous tackles for loss by DE’s Michael Negron and Spenser Huston who did play a lot of the game as a DT.  The other T spot which was manned by a rotation of Austin Jennings, Michael Stewart and Jerome Madrigal all played extremely well and were supported strongly by MLB’s Joe Lenz, Nick Oristanio as well as OLB’s Chris Thomson and Sam Compton.  The final was 32 - 6 on another Hilltoper victory who now face the winner of the American Conference in the Super Bowl at 12pm on Sunday in Westfield Won 14-8.  After giving up a touchdown on New Providence's opening drive Summit's defense settled down and gave up minimal yards the rest of the game.  The dominating defensive line of Phillip Jefferson (10 tackles), Geron Crawford, Stefano Stadlinger (12 tackles), Kyle Codey, Hany Castenada, Harry McCreary and Billy Hadley was supported by stifling linebackers of Ben Ballintyn (9 tackles), Kohl Geibel (6 tackles), Alex Fiorito (12 tackles), Matt Miller and Thomas Lackaye (3 tackles).  The DH eliminated NP's passing with an interception by Johnny Shaffer and support from Brendan Wood (4 tackles), Eric Wood and Jamie Ogden.  After having a touchdown nullified Shaffer and the offense drove down the field for with a 2 yard TD dives followed by a PAT kick to tie the game.  With the defense not giving up anymore yards the offense burned the clock by scoring 2 TDs that were called back due to penalties and finally securing 6 points on a David Kalin 7 yard run around end.

Summit will now face Westfield in the Superbowl next Sunday at 2:00.  This was truly a team win inspired by adversity!

Sun 11/19 SUPER BOWL Won 16 - 12 Playing in Westfield The Hilltoppers defeated the Westfield Blue Devils to capture the Super Bowl Championship.  After falling behind 6 - 0 on the Blue Devils opening drive of the game the Hilltoppers gathered their composure and went to work.  QB and Game MVP Chett Joffe flawlessly handled a drive with a nice mix of his running and passing.  He hit HB Ryan Hislop on a nice swing pass into the left flat for a big gainer that set up Joffe’s first TD pass of the day to WR Tony Masterfano, who made a great leaping grab in the back of the endzone over a Blue Devil defender and with CB/K Timmy Yager’s conmversion the Hilltoppers had an 8 - 0 lead.  The defense put together a nice series with tackles for loss by DE Michael Negron, DT Michael Stewart and LB Nick Oristanio.  When the Hillotppers got the ball back QB Chett Joffe directed a nice drive once again where on the drive he hit a streaking Timmy Yager who was playing WR with a great ball over the middle in the seam on a post route which set the Hilltoppers up deep in Blue Devil territory. From there Joffe, after a nice little play fake rolled right and found TE Jackson Stuckey in the endzone for  TD and with Yager’s conversion the Hilltoppers had a 16 - 6 lead at the half.  After a scoreless 3rd quarter The Blue Devils determined to get back in the game went to the air and ended up scoring on a TD pass that made the score 16 - 12, but LB Joe Lenz blocked the ensuing extra point and the score remained 16 - 12.  The Hilltoppers got the ball back and tried to kill the clock, but QB Chett Joffe was pushed out of bounds just short of the 1st down marker and they were forced to punt.  Westfield mounted a furious drive in the closing minutes and ended up deep in Hilltopper territory.  The Summit fans must have been really concerned, because it appeared that the game was over by the scoreboard clock on more than a few occasions - but the official time is kept on the field and the coaches and players were well aware of how much time was left.  Westfield had 2 last plays to try and win the game, but CB Timmy Yager broke on a deep out route and just got a piece of the ball to bat it away.  On the final play a late defensive replacement FS Jackson Stuckey batted down the last pass attempt to seal the victory, an undefeated season and the Super Bowl Championship for the Hilltoppers.  This was an extremely successful season for Summit Youth Football and we wish these young men good luck in their High School careers and we look forward to seeing them win Championships for the High School. Won 30-14.  Summit beat Westfield 30-14 to win the NJSYFL Super Bowl.  Johnny Shaffer, QB and game MVP) took the team down to score on their first possession and never looked back.  With strong running by David Kalin & Tommy Celmer, Shaffer capped off the drive with a 25 yard TD pass to Will WeberShaffer converted the PAT kick to take an 8-0 lead.  After a strong defensive stand the offense got the ball back at the 50 yard line.  After an 8 yard option run, Shaffer hit Andrew Miller for a 43 yard TD strike to take a commanding lead.  Shaffer then converted the PAT for a 16-0 first quarter lead.  Westfield the took the ball 65 yard downfield to score and close the gap to 16-7.  In response to Westfield's TD Summit took complete control on the next offensive play; Shaffer hit David Kalin down the sideline for a 65 yard TD pass.  With Shaffer's PAT conversion Summit took a 24-7 lead into halftime.  Summit's lone score of the 2nd half came on an Andrew Miller 5 yard diving plunge for a 30-7 3rd quarter lead.  Westfield did score on their last series to end the game at 30-14.  Summit's defense was again led by strong efforts of Stefano Stadlinger, Philip Jefferson, Alex Fiorito and Ben Ballinty.  Fumble recoveries by Jamie Ogden and Jefferson coupled with Brendan Wood's team leading 4th interception helped Summit's defense seal the game.  Summit outscored their opponents this year 233-76.  Congratulations B-team on an outstanding 9-1 season and Super Bowl victory. Won 33-20. Summit “C” Team (10-0 NFC) defeated Millburn (9-1 AFC) 33-20 for the NJSYFL Super Bowl Championship at Kehler Field in Westfield, NJ. Summit’s defense set the tone early, with NT Drew Higgins crashing through the line to stop Millburn’s highly scouted No. 33 for a loss on the first play from scrimmage. “No. 33 meet No. 12.” Summit kept the momentum and provided great field position for the offense: going 3 and out, forcing fumbles, stuffing the run, deflecting passes, including a key interception from DB Tim Landers coupled with deep team punt coverage on a 45 yard punt by PK Mike Badgley. Hilltopper OLB’s Austin Carbone and Nick Watts hard hitting stopped Milburn’s hitch passes. Summit DE Justin Gump and DE Tyler Carbone contained the outside run and MLB Will Shamim, DT Demetrius Young stuffed inside game. Summit’s O-line, lead by OT Brendan Huston, OG Joe Szymanski, C Robert Chase, OG Andrew Oristanio and OT Will Daney helped summit gain an impressive 295 yards on the ground on runs from Dillon Confalone, Jamie White and Mike Badgley. Super bowl MVP, HB Jamie White rushed for 4 TDs leading the ground attack with 273 yards. WR Kyree Negron scored one TD on a 24 yard reception from QB Mike Badgley, who kicked 3 PATs for the Hilltoppers. The entire Summit “C” team contributed for another solid win. Congratulations on the Summit “C” Team 10-0 undefeated season and Super bowl Championship!
