West Essex avenged an earlier loss to Summit and in the process crushed Summit's chances of qualifying for the State Tournament. Summit started out well and was ahead by 25-20 at the end of the first half. Chris Kehoe scored 14 of his game high 19 points in the half and Tim Donnally added 9 to dominate the Summit scoring. However, the 3rd quarter was a disaster. The Summit fans were shocked when West Essex ran off 14 unanswered points to go from being down by 5 to being ahead by 9. Summit eventually tallied 3 points and started the final quarter 8 points in the hole.
To compound the problem, West Essex scored the first 5 points of the 4th quarter and Summit was behind 41-28 and appeared to be on the way to being blown out. But then the rally started. Kehoe nailed a trey and Donnally added 2 field goals to close the gap to 42-35. A free throw by Travis Marchell and a basket plus free throw by Adolofo Arrieta made it 42-39 with 2:20 left. Marchell scored a great put back at the 1 minute mark to pull Summit to within 1 point (42-41). West Essex nailed a pair of free throws with 13.9 seconds left. Summit managed to get off two 3-point attempts in the final seconds, but they wouldn't drop.
