The Summit Varsity Lady Hilltoppers took to their newly refinished court and gave the highly ranked Chatham Cougars all they could handle before dropping a 50-44 decision tonight. Summit displayed a powerful inside game, led by Danielle Scott's 8 points in the quarter, to counteract Chatham's great outside shooting. Summit was holding the ball for the last shot in the quarter, and only a turnover resulting in a lay up kept Summit from taking the first quarter lead. But some nice all around play in the second quarter, with balanced scoring from Katelyn Allocco, Jamie Osmulski, and Shannon Murphy, and strong defense by Megan Osmulski, tied the game up at half. Summit came out strong in the third quarter, but some early foul trouble on two starters seemed to take a little wind out of the offense. Only some great play by point guard Jenna Wilson, who finished the game with 10 points, and Alex Reid, who had three rebounds and two assists, kept Summit close as Chatham buried two threes in the quarter. All season Summit has either led or been tied in the fourth quarter of each game, and tonight was no exception. Displaying some great fight and a lot of heart, Summit drew even at 40-40 on some clutch foul shooting by Danielle Allocco and Murphy, who finished with 6. Summit's foul trouble caught up to them though, and Chatham was able to pull away at the end from the free throw line, despite two more clutch buckets by Wilson, who did a masterful job bringing the ball up and penetrating through Chatham's defense. Danielle Scott finished with a team high 16 points.

JV Report

Lost 47-36  Summit’ JV Lady Hilltoppers took on a well balanced, deep Chatham team tonight and lost 47-36 in front of a packed house in SummitSummit had a hard time getting on track and Chatham threw zone and man presses and a stifling defense at the Hilltoppers, but Summit got on track in the second quarter and got some nice scoring from Candace Marchell and Mickey Brown underneath and Cassie Hall and Courtney Wheeler on the outside. Summit trailed 16-21 at halftime, but came out strong in the third quarter.  Point guard Emily Cristaldi, who was terrific in breaking Chatham’s press and dishing off for easy baskets, finished with 5 assists and 4 points. Claire Cummins and Abby Mell helped Summit to a sizeable rebound advantage, but Chatham widened their lead in the third quarter on 5-7 shooting from deep outside.  Marchell had a monster game, finishing with 18 points and 8 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough to counter Chatham’s balanced scoring
