Summit's Varsity Lady Hilltoppers gave Chatham everything they could handle tonight before succumbing in the latter part of the fourth quarter. Summit came out playing inspired ball and took a 10-8 lead on some balanced scoring from Danielle Scott, Megan Osmulski, Jenna Wilson, Jamie Osmulski and Alex Reid, who each scored two points in the quarter. Summit's zone defense was giving Chatham problems, and Jenna Wilson had 3 steals and Shannon Murphy also had three to help jump start Summit's offense. Chatham came out hard in the second, taking a 14-10 lead on a very quick 6-0 run, but Reid shot 3-5 in the quarter and Shannon Murphy and Danielle Scott each hit a bucket giving Summit a 22-20 lead. Chatham came out in the third working the ball well around Summit's zone, and despite 4 points each from Jamie Osmulski and Danielle Scott, took a 35-30 lead. But Summit got key points from Danielle Allocco and Murphy to narrow the gap, and forged a one point lead with 6 minutes to go after two free throws by Megan Osmulski. From there on it was all Chatham, as some turnovers by Summit and some missed shots hurt their chances. A last minute score by Emily Cristaldi got Summit within 4, but it wasn't enough as Chatham held onto the ball without turning it over for most of the last two minutes of the game.

JV Result

Lost 37-38 Summit came into Chatham’s hostile gym looking to avenge the early season loss and looked every bit like the team that could end Chatham’s undefeated season.  With Emily Cristaldi lighting up the gym with three 3-point baskets in the first half and some great inside work by Abby Mell and Candace Marchell, Summit and Chatham were tied 17-17 at half.  The third quarter was a defensive gem as Deanna Nelson who had an incredible 7 steals, most in the second half, and Mickey Brown, with 3 rebounds, kept Chatham off the board.  And when Cassie Hall and Marchell opened the fourth quarter with scores, Summit had a lead.  The lead increased to 5 and Summit had numerous chances to put Chatham away, but missed three makeable shots, and Chatham clawed their way back through pressure defense.  Chatham was lucky to tie the game in regulation, and when Abby Mell hit a beautiful 12 foot jumper from the key with 25 seconds left, Summit looked good.  Chatham worked the ball around, called time out, and took a shot that missed, but the rebound went off Summit. With 7 seconds left, Chatham called the perfect inbounds play and scored an easy hoop, and Summit’s last ditch effort with 4 seconds left came up agonizingly short.
