Summit entered the game the decided underdog against the squad ranked #1 in Summit's State Group II pairing, but you wouldn't have known it from the game. Despite HP's significant height advantage, Summit's Lady Hilltoppers started strongly with Megan Osmulski hitting a 3 off the opening tap. From there it was Danielle Scott who hit 4 shots in a row to stake Summit to a 13-11 first quarter advantage. The second quarter saw HP step up the defensive pressure, only to have Summit come back on a nice shot by Katelyn Allocco. A three point play by Alex Reid kept Summit close, trailing 20-21 at half. The third quarter started out all HP, but some nice defensive pressure from Shannon Murphy, who had three steals and 4 rebounds, and Alex Reid, who had 2 steals in the quarter, ignited Summit, and when Reid caught fire from the outside, hitting three shots in a row, the last at the buzzer, Summit had a 34-29 lead entering the crucial fourth quarter. HP , displaying why they have only 2 losses this year, went on a 10-2 run, driving hard to the hoop and preventing Summit from setting up their defense, and things looked bleak. But Summit, as they have all season, clawed their way back on some solid free throw shooting from Megan Osmulski, Jenna Wilson and Melissa Scott, and when Danielle Scott hit a bucket with 28 seconds left Summit trailed by one, 42-43. Summit put the pressure on the throw in and got a break when HP's star player caught the ball and dragged her pivot foot that the whole crowd saw, but the referee missed the traveling call and instead called a phantom foul against Summit! Hanover hit both free throws and though Summit was able to get off two shots in the last 10 seconds, they failed to drop, ending in a disappointing loss for the valiant Lady Hilltoppers.

JV Result

Won 43-42  In a terrific game with two of the areas best JV’s, the Summit JV Lady Hilltoppers narrowly defeated HP in a thriller at SHS.  The game started out well for Summit as Abby Mell, Cassie Hall and Claire Cummins all had 4 points in staking Summit to a 14-6 lead.  The lead appeared safe through the second quarter as Candy Marchell had a great period, scoring and rebounding underneath and recording 8 points for a 24-17 halftime lead.  With Emily Cristaldi and Mickey Brown contributing points in the third, the game seemed well enough at hand, with Summit leading 36-28. But Summit had begun to turn the ball over a lot in the third, and with HP applying full court pressure, they went on a 12-4 run to tie it at 40.  A key bucket from the right side by Mickey Brown, who also hit on two foul shots in the quarter, gave Summit a brief lead, and a key rebound by Mell seemed to lock up the game.  But HP came back to score after a Summit turnover and tied it with 7 seconds left.  On Summit’s inbounds play they found Candy Marchell who dribbled down to the foul line and was fouled with 3.7 seconds to play.  She hit the first of her two free throws and that proved to be the game winner! One key to Summit’s victory was, even though they turned the ball over, they held HP to one shot, and Mell, Brown, Hall and Marchell combined for 25 rebounds that kept HP away from ever taking a lead.
