Summit entered the game the decided underdog against the squad ranked #1 in Summit's State Group II pairing, but you wouldn't have known it from the game. Despite HP's significant height advantage, Summit's Lady Hilltoppers started strongly with Megan Osmulski hitting a 3 off the opening tap. From there it was Danielle Scott who hit 4 shots in a row to stake Summit to a 13-11 first quarter advantage. The second quarter saw HP step up the defensive pressure, only to have Summit come back on a nice shot by Katelyn Allocco. A three point play by Alex Reid kept Summit close, trailing 20-21 at half. The third quarter started out all HP, but some nice defensive pressure from Shannon Murphy, who had three steals and 4 rebounds, and Alex Reid, who had 2 steals in the quarter, ignited Summit, and when Reid caught fire from the outside, hitting three shots in a row, the last at the buzzer, Summit had a 34-29 lead entering the crucial fourth quarter. HP , displaying why they have only 2 losses this year, went on a 10-2 run, driving hard to the hoop and preventing Summit from setting up their defense, and things looked bleak. But Summit, as they have all season, clawed their way back on some solid free throw shooting from Megan Osmulski, Jenna Wilson and Melissa Scott, and when Danielle Scott hit a bucket with 28 seconds left Summit trailed by one, 42-43. Summit put the pressure on the throw in and got a break when HP's star player caught the ball and dragged her pivot foot that the whole crowd saw, but the referee missed the traveling call and instead called a phantom foul against Summit! Hanover hit both free throws and though Summit was able to get off two shots in the last 10 seconds, they failed to drop, ending in a disappointing loss for the valiant Lady Hilltoppers.
