The Summit Lady Hilltoppers arrived in Weequahic's gym confident after two straight wins but left a little shaken after squeaking out a 40-37 victory in a tough win. It seemed like nothing went right for the Lady Hilltoppers, as the refs, the rims and the weather all seemed to work against them. The girls had their worst shooting game from the field and the line in the same game, but through guts and determination never trailed in the game. The first quarter ended 10-10, but Summit had so many shots that just rolled off the rim. Weequahic scored almost all their points off second and third chances, as Summit had trouble keeping them off the boards. Some balanced scoring in the second quarter from Jamie Osmulski, Katelyn Allocco and Alex Reid helped to support the team as Danielle Scott was on the bench with two fouls. Through solid defense by Jenna Wilson, Danielle Allocco and Shannon Murphy, and some good ball handling by Melissa Scott, Summit stretched their lead to 18-14. In the third quarter Summit received a spark from Danielle Scott, who finished with 18 points before fouling out, and Reid, who scored 4 in the quarter. Solid rebounding by Katelyn Allocco and Megan Osmulski limited Weequahic to one shot. Summit's lead of 27-21 looked safe, but 9 missed free throws in the fourth quarter kept it close. Summit was saved by the play of junior Candy Marchell, who came in for the fourth quarter with the game on the line and pulled down 4 rebounds and scored two really tough buckets underneath with three girls on her. A saving rebound by Murphy and Jamie Osmulski's free throw with 5 seconds left provided the three point cushion they needed for the win.

JV Result

Won 45-38 Summit's JV Lady Hilltoppers faced a tough opponent stacked with some varsity players and still came out the victor, despite a crushing injury to power forward Cassie Hall, who was injured early in the game. The scoring burden fell on the shoulders of Emily Cristaldi, who finished with 21 points, and Candy Marchell, who finished with 16 points. They did not disappoint, as Cristaldi hit three back breaking 3-pointers, and Marchell time and again hit for tough buckets underneath. As Weequahic began to close the gap in the fourth quarter an obviously tired Summit needed a spark. They got it on two fronts; one from the amazing defense played by Deanna Nelson, who covered the incredibly quick Weequahic point guard, and the clutch rebounding and put backs from Abby Mell, who hit for all 6 of her points in the second half, the final four in the last two minutes of the game to keep Summit's lead secure. Summit was also supported by solid rebounding from Mickey Brown and Claire Cummins, and good defense by Michelle Rickley at center, Najla Austin at forward and Amanda Corrigan at point guard.
