Union County Tournament

Summit Junior Varsity Ice Hockey Team ended its season in dramatic fashion winning the Union County JV Ice Hockey Tournament in a shoot out!  The tournament is sponsored by Westfield was held at the Woodbridge Community Center. The round robin format had the Hilltopper’s facing Westfield in the first game. The game ended in a 0-0 tie. It was no surprise as during the regular season’s three meetings, the Hilltoppers and Blue Devils traded victories and shared one tie. Cranford was the victim in the second game.  Cranford stood no chance against a motivated Summit team. The majority of play was in the Cranford zone, with Summit a clear victor 3-0.  Westfield and Summit faced off in the tournament final and skated to a 0-0 tie in regulation. The first overtime period also ended in a 0-0 tie. The game was decided in a shootout. First blood was drawn by Westfield scoring on their first two opportunities. Summit rallied with two goals of their own. Summit's goalie denied the next two Westfield shooters, and Summits Robbie White snuck one by the Westfield net minder for the win.  Summit dominated most of the games with strong offensive pressure and a stingy defense backed up by goaltender Paul Coviello stopping all 28 shots he faced.
