Chatham came out the winner in a game in which each team had 10 hits and every hit was a single. The real deciding factors were a number of bad base running decisions that cost Summit, at a minimum, two runs. In addition, four infield errors resulted in one unearned run for Chatham and repeatedly extended Kevin Lackaye's time on the mound resulting in a greatly increased pitch count.In some ways this was like the Parsippany game in that Summit scored twice in the 1st inning and then was unable to cash in on opportunities in other innings.
In the 1st inning Eddie Hagan got the first of his 3 singles. Evan Chang folllowed this with a single and Eric Della Piazza walked to load the bases. A wild pitch scored Hagan and a single by Matt Carbone brought in Chang. That left Summit with two men on base and no outs. On the subsequent infield ground ball by Tim Cotter the runner on third tried to score and was thrown out and the other runner was caught in a rundown between 2nd and 3rd. Instead of one out and runners on 2nd and 3rd Summit had 2 outs and a runner at 1st. Lackaye then rapped a sharp single, but no one was in scoring position.
In the top of the 2nd inning, Chatham picked up an unearned run to tie the game as the result of a single and two infield errors. In the bottom of the 4th inning, Lackaye led off with a single and was followed by a Kenny Miller single that would have put two men on with one out. Unfortunately, the pinch runner was caught in a rundown between 2nd and 3rd. Chatham scored a run in the 5th and one in the 6th to gain the victory
