|
Dover took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st inning as the result of 2 hits and a Summit error. Summit came back strong in the top of the second scoring 4 runs. Tim Spangler got things started with a single and was driven in by Tim Cotter's one out double. A single by Kenny Miller moved the runner to third and set up the second squeeze play of the season by Matt Carbone. Ben Roessle's single loaded the bases. Unfortunately a rare 1-2-5 double play erased a runner. But, Eric Della Piazza singled to drive in two more runs and give Summit a 4-1 lead. Dover added an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth on walk, a single and a Summit error. Through 4 innings Montero had held Dover to 1 earned run and four hits.
In the bottom of the 5th inning things turned sour. Dover started the inning with a walk a single and an infield error. At this point Tim Cotter came on in felief and was greeted by a single. After a strikeout, there was another single, a walk and another infield error and before it all ended Dover had 5 runs and a 8-4 lead. However, Summit rallied for two runs in the top of the 6th. Spangler got things started with a double. A double by Miller put runners at 2nd and 3rd. Carbone drove in one run with an infield out and Ben Roessle drove in another with a single. Now the gap was 8-6. Dover added another 4 runs in the 6th to pretty mush put the game away. Summit made a valiant effort in the 7th but managed only 2 runs via a walk to Della Piazza, a Lackaye single,a passed ball and a Cotter single.
