Doubles: Della Piazza(1)
|
Summit opening game started on a sunny, windy, cold day. Through the course of the game Summit used four pitchers, but none of them were able to get into a solid groove, Mendham jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first and extended it to 4-0 in the second. Summit made it close in the top of the 3rd. After 2 outs , Matt Carbone walked, Eric Forsell walked and Tim Cotter got Summit's 1st hit (a single) to drive in Carbone. Kenny Miller drew another walk and a solid single by Reid Van Syckle plated both Forsell and Cotter, making the score 4-3. Unfortunately Mendham answered with 4 runs in the 3rd.
In the top of the 4th Summit added two runs to get back in the game. Evan Chang led off with a single and Eric Della Piazza doubled to put runners at 2nd and 3rd. After 2 outs, Cotter got his second single driving in both runners. Yet again, Mendham poured it on with 4 runs in the 4th and 3 more in the 5th to end the game.
