Kevin Lackaye scattered 8 hits, struck out 11 batters and was superb with men on base as he gained the 1st shutout of the season. Every time that Parsippany threatened Lackaye rose to the occasion by getting one or more key strikeouts to end the threat. To augment a fine pitching effort, Summit's bats came alive with 10 hits over 6 innings. The defense was strong, highlighted by a diving catch by Kenny Miller of a sinking line drive to right with a runner in scoring position.

Summit got its first run in the 2nd inning when Tim Spangler and Lackaye singled, Tim Cotter laid down a sacrifice bunt and Miller brought Spangler home on a sacrifice fly. Four more runs were added in the 4th. Lackaye and Cotter had back-to-back singles and Matt Carbone sacrificed them to scoring position. Miller drew a base on balls to load the bases. Ben Roessle singled in the first run and Eric Della Piazza's single brought home two more. The final run scored on Eddie Hagan's infield ground ball. Two more insurance run scored in the 6th. Again Lackaye and Cotter started things off with singles. One run scored when Carbone was safe on a dropped 3rd strike. The second run scored on Miller's ground ball.

Entries close for the State Tournament on Friday May 9th. Summit has the daunting task of winning 5 of their next 7 games to qualify.
