This was not an artistic baseball game, but it certainly had a full measure of excitement. Words like "Slugfest" come to mind. Can you remember a Summit game that featured 4 home runs?

Summit jumped to an early lead , then fell behind, closed the gap, then fell back and finally rallied from down 3 runs to win the game. Summit scored first in the bottom of the 1st inning. Three runs resulted from Eddie Hagan being hit, Evan Chang being walked and Kevin Lackaye hitting a home run. Pingry bounced back with 2 runs in the top of the 2nd inning. Summit made it 4-2 in the bottom of the 2nd, Matt Carbone was hit by the pitcher and stole 2nd, Kenny Miller sacrificed him to 3rd and he scored on Ben Roeslle's double. Pingry roared back in the 3rd with 4 runs helped by two home runs that sent Carbone back behind the plate and brought on Miller to pitch.

In the top of the fourth Pingry stretched their lead to 8-4 with two more runs. Tim Spangler came on in relief in the 4th and after a bit of a shaky start got the side out. Summit came right back with 3 runs in the bottom of the 4th. Miller doubled with one out, Roessle hit a shot to deep left that the fielder got to but dropped the ball allowing Miller to score. Two walks loaded the bases and a run scored on a ground ball by Chang. The third run scored on a error by the third baseman on a Spangler ground ball. The game entered the 5th inning with the score Pingry 8 Summit 7. Pingry widened the gap to 10-7 with a single and another home run. Summit made it 10-8 when Carbone reached base on a error, Miller singled and Roeslle singled to drive in the run.

Pingry capitalized on a Summit lapse to score their 11th run. The leadoff hitter was walked , sacrificed to 2nd and stole third. The next batter struck out but the umpire ruled that the 3rd strike was dropped so Carbone had to throw down to 1st for the out. In the confusion, everyone forgot about the runner on third who decided to take off for home plate and scored. So, Summit moved to bottom of the 6th now down 11-8. Hagen was walked to start their inning, Chang singled and Spangler drew a walk to load the bases. A clutch single by Lackaye drove in two runs. A single by Cotter drove in the tieing run. After one out Miller was intentionally walk to load the bases. Roessle hit a sacrifice fly ball to center to score Lackaye and give Summit the lead again for the first time since the 2nd inning. The inning ended with Summit on top 12-11. But Pingry would have one more chance. Spangler rose to the occasion and put down the side 1-2-3 to be credited with the "W."
