Summit's Union County Tournament dreams came to an abrupt halt at the hands of a hard hitting Scotch Plains team. Scotch Plains managed to get to Kevin Lackaye for 11 hits and 10 runs over four innings. Admittedly, they were helped by 3 errors and a couple of dubious fielding decisions, but in the grand scale of things it probably would have seriously affected the ultimate out come. Summit managed only 3 singles over their five innings.
Both regular first basemen, Tim Cotter and Eric Forsell were sick, so Tim Kane took over at 1st base and freshman Matt DeWald was brought up as DH.
The Weequahic game is a must win for Summit if we are to qualify for the State Tournament. Currently, rain is predicted for Friday. If the game is postponed it will kill our hopes since the cutoff date is Friday may 9th.
