Summit competed in the biggest Invitational of the year which serves as a midseason barometer. With almost every team in the state competing on the same course on the same day, it is easy to determine where you stand. Though the varsity boys, led bu Kiko Azevedo's 11th place, did not have their best team race, they still posted a strong performance ranking them on the top in the section and top three in the group.

The freshmen boys repeated as champions, despite moving up a division (based on school size). Their race was highlighted by Thomas Chin's third win of the season which was the 5th fastest time of the 478 freshmen that ran on Saturday. This year's frosh crew posted the third best team average of the 55 freshmen teams from the state that competed.

Summit's boys laid it on the line today in an effort to capture the first ever County title for the boys program. The last 19 County titles belong to two programs - Westfield and Cranford. Westfield has now captured 11 of the last 19.

The boys fell one point short - 65-66 - from making history. These young men have much to be proud of as they ran some of the best races of the season when it counted most. With a all seven varsity runners returning next season the future of the program remains very very bright.

Summit captures first sectional title since 1999.

In what was expected to be closest sectional race in the state, the Summit boys, running with focus and determination, ran a great team race and pulled away from the competition. Relying on a tight pack, the boys put seven across the line within a :45 second period and before any other team had five cross.

The effort displayed the resiliency and character of this team that rebounded in impressive form from a disappointing 1-point Union County championship loss.

Next up the boys look to make history and qualify for the Meet of Champions as a team by placing in the top three at the Group championship meet.

Summit's men's cross country team ended the season by accomplishing one of its preseason goals - a top 5 finish at the Group 2 state championships. The runners had their sights set higher knowing a top 3 and berth in the Meet of Champions was possible as well. Unfortunately, they just missed out by 6 points. Disappointing as that was, it did not wipe out the fact that this was the best season in the history of the program and the foundation for next year's success.
