Parsippany Hills (then 4-1) established their ground game early and scored on their first two possessions. The first drive was 40 yards and the 2nd was 82 yards. Summit took the kickoff after the 2nd score as the 1st quarter ended. They quickly drove to a 1st down on the Parsippany Hills 10 yard line, with 4 of the 5 plays being runs by Matt Ruark (who led the team with99 yards rushing). However, Summit had to settle for a 28 yard field goal by Edgar Ozols to make the score 14-3. On Parsippany Hills' next possession Kevin Delle Donne put a great hit on the Par Hills quarterback as he was about to pass. Delle Donne jarred the ball loose and Kevin McNany scooped the ball up and powered his way into the endzone. Mike Vitale ran in the extra point and suddenly Summit had closed to within 3 points (14-11). In the 2nd half Par Hills took charge and Summit didn't make it into Par Hills territory again until their final possession of the game. By then it was too late
