Summit had lots of opportunities to win but fell short. Hanover Park took the lead early and kept a slim lead up until the end of the 3rd quarter which ended in a 34-34 tie. Chris Kehoe and Kendall Baker kept Summit in the game as they each scored 14 points during the first 3 quarters. These two players accounted for 28 of Summit's 34 point.
Hanover Park began the final quarter by hitting a 3-pointer that was answered by a three from Baker. HP ran off the next 5 points but Jordan Healey drained consecutive treys to give Summit a 43-42 lead. Three Hanover Park FGs were offset by a FG by Kehoe and yet another 3 from Healey, and the score was knotted at 48-48. Some sloppy passes by Summit allowed Hanover Park to score 4 points. With 2 minutes left, Summit got a golden opportunity when James Kennedy was fouled in the act of shooting and a Hanover Park player was tagged with a technical foul for something he said to the referee. That meant Summit would get 4 foul shots and the ball. Summit managed only 2 of the 4 free throws and turned the ball over. Two free throws by Hanover Park put the game away. Doug Williams scored with just seconds left.
As has happened in the past, inability to hit free throws played a big role in the loss. Summit managed to hit only 3 of 8 FTs while Hanover Park went 7 of 9 from the free throw line.
Baker and Kehoe each scored 17 points and Healey had 13. Kehoe had a big night under the hoop with 13 rebounds.
