UCT vs. Johnson
s
4:00PM Won 7-6 Adolfo Arrieta ,a junior middie, caught a defender overplaying his right side, then sprinted through the box and delivered a left-handed shot with 55.3 seconds left to give Summit a 7-6 victory over Johnson yesterday in the championship of the Union County Tournament. The right-handed Arrieta established a career high with that third goal as he helped Summit (13-5) to its fourth UCT title. His scoring was complemented by a resilient defense that helped Summit recover from a 4-1 deficit after one quarter and weather a three-minute, man-down situation in the fourth. Summit plunked in four straight goals in the second quarter, two by John Scioscia, to open a 5-4 lead at the half. Klimchak scored 2:08 into the third quarter to tie the game, but Kyle Mahoney connected late in the period for a one-goal Summit lead.

There were several outstanding individual achievements, such as the goaltending of sophomore Brian Feeney (eight saves), the playmaking of sophomore attackman John Scioscia (two goals, three assists) and the faceoff work of junior Brian Bell and senior Ben Grimmig.

Summit was penalized during a random stick check before the fourth quarter, but Johnson could capitalize only once in the three-minute span, when Johynson scored 16 seconds into the quarter. Summit won the next faceoff and was able to kill most of the penalty.

Sat 05/24 Home NJSIAA Quarterfinals vs. Kinnnelon Noon Won 6-3 Brian Feeney was tower of strength on defense, stopping 20 shots to derail a talented Kinnelon offense and help Summit win this Group 1 quarterfinal match. BJ West gave Summit a 1-0 in a hard fought 1st quarter. However, Kinnelon rallied for two goals in the 2nd quarter to temporarily take the lead. Adolfo Arrieta scored to tie the game, and the half ended with the score tied 2-2.

The 3rd quarter was a scoreless battle until the final 37 seconds when Summit pulled off one of the best passing sequences of the game. It started when Feeney gathered a ground ball off an errant shot just outside the cage and hit Stuke, who initiated the transition play. Kyle Mahoney capped off a feed by John Scioscia for a 3-2 Summit lead.

James Kennedy produced a 4th quarter goal to give Summit some breathing room at 4-2. Summit extended the lead to 5-2 when Adolfo Arrieta scored his second goal of the game with 6:02 left in the game. Kinnelon snapped a 33:33 scoring drought when they connected for a goal with 1 minute left in the game. Kinnelon pulled its goalie in the final minute and BJ West added an empty net goal to complete the Summit scoring.

That victory sends fourth-seeded Summit (15-5) into a semifinal-round matchup with top-ranked and defending-champion Mountain Lakes Tuesday in Mountain Lakes.
