The Summit Youth Hockey Club opened up their inaugural hockey season with a hard fought game versus an experienced Long Valley team with a one goal loss. Summit worked hard for three fast paced periods. In the third period Summit pulled their goalie, adding extra skater, but simple ran out of time in the end. Goaltender Nick Greer stood on his head, defensemen Joe McGrath, Mike Santini, Mike Lizza and Mike Nitray played tough D, and forwards Frank Lawrence, Mike Badgley, Will Webber, Austin Sayre, Drew Higgins, Matt Maier and Will Taggart worked both ends all night long. Impressive start to the season and the bright future that lies ahead of the young Hilltoppers.

The Summit Youth Hockey Club put up their first W vs. the local Bridgewater organization with a solid 7-0 performance.  Goaltender Nick Greer put up a shutout for the Hilltoppers. The Summit goals were credited to C Drew Higgins with two, and one each from RW Matt Maier, LW Will Webber, D William Brenn, RW Frank Lawrence and C Mike Badgley. Assists were credited to C Eric Stabler with two,and one each to Webber, D Joe McGrath, Maier, Brenn and Lawrence.

Summit Youth Hockey took it to Chatham with a solid 12-0 performance improving their record to 2-1 in league play. Goaltender Corey Nadel put up a shutout for the Hilltoppers. There were a dozen goals and assists were many.

Summit Youth Hockey improved their league record to 5-1 with a 7-0 victory over Roxbury. Goaltender Nick Greer put up another shutout between the pipes. The Summit defense was ignited early with a crushing blow delivered by D Mike Niytray that set the tone of a hard hitting game to follow. The Summit scoring was lead by F Will Webber with a hat trick, F Frank Lawrence with four points, 2 goals and 2 assists; F Drew Higgins with 1 goal and 1 assist; and D Mike Santina with 1 goal and 1 assist for the Hilltoppers. On a side note: Summit played an out of league exhibition match vs. the BHC Bantams at USA Areana this week and came away with a 3-0 Win. F Mike Badgley (2) and F Eric Stabler (1) were credited with the goals for Summit. Next up for Summit vs. Mountain Lakes on Monday, January 28th at 7:00 PM at BSA.

Goaltender Nick Greer had another stellar night between the pipes with 23 saves for Summit, including at least three great saves during a 1:15 min two man down penalty kill. The Summit scoring was lead by D Mike Nitray with a hat trick, F Frank Lawrence and F Will Webber with one goal each. Assists were credited to Nitray and F Eric Stabler. The only goal against came during a man down penalty situation. The Summit scoring was lead by F Will Brenn with a hat trick, F Jeff Wycoff and D Mike Santini with two goals each and F Will Taggart, F Will Webber and D Mike Lizza with one goal each. Only one assists was credited to F Mike Badgley, which can’t be right, as there was stellar passing from F Eric Stabler, F Frank Lawrence, F Ausitn Sayre and D Joe McGrath  and D Mike Nitray throughout the evening. Summit Youth Hockey opened post season play with a decisive first round victory vs. Denville with a  solid 6-0 shutout. Exciting game. The first period ended scoreless. Summit opened things up in the second period with five goals. Summit scoring was credited to Will Webber with two goals, Mike Badgley with one, Frank Lawrence with one, Eric Stabler with one and Drew Higgins with one goal. Nicky Greer pitched another shut out for the Hilltoppers inbetween the pipes. Next up, American league semi-finals, second round in the playoffs is slotted for Thursday, March 27th at 5:20 PM.

The Summit Youth Hockey Club came up on the winning end of another hard fought game versus Long Valley. Avenging two regular season losses to Long Valley, Summit got it done when it counted with a thrilling 3-2 over-time sudden death victory.  Goaltender Nick Greer again stood on his head and was awarded the game puck for coming up a boatload of saves for the Hilltoppers who were out shot 50-29. Long Valley tooka 1-0 lead middle of the second.  Summit answered halfway through the third when F Frank Lawrence scored in a scrum.  Originally the goal was waived off but the senior referee overruled it and awarded Summit the goal. Tie game 1-1. With 2:30 left in the third Long Valley went ahead 2-1. Again, Summit answered with 1:10 left in the third when F Jefferey Wyckoff scored on a beautiful feed from D Michael Nytray ending regulation knotted up with a 2-2 score. In sudden death playoff hockey the Summit Hilltoppers rose to the challenge at 4:30 into overtime F Austin Sayre put the puck in the net with an unassisted goal to win it for Summit and advance to the American League finals. Congratulations on the sweet victory. Next up for Summit, Championship game on Monday, March 31st at 7:00 PM at BSA.

Summit Youth Hockey finished their inaugural season with a hard fought 2-3 battle vs. Mountain Lakes as runner-up in the American Division. The Summit scoring was credited to F Will Brenn at 14:58 of the second and a Will Brenn tip on a D Michael Nitray shot with 18 seconds left in regulation. G Nick Greer was awarded the team MVP by Coach Lawrence and GM Rick Webber for his outstanding play between the pipes in the playoffs and thorough regular season play. Coach Lawrence expressed optimistic reflections in a post game interview...“Judging from the locker room banter the boys enjoyed playing with guys they see every day in class and at other sports.  As for the hockey I was very happy with the quality of play.  The team certainly improved and the hockey they played in the playoffs was fast, physical and smart.  All the kids were challenged by the level of play and should be proud of their efforts.  I wish them all well.” Congratulations to all Summit hockey players on a great season. In what truly was an impressive first season in the BSA middle school league. The future looks bright for Summit Hockey, as does all that lies ahead for the young Hilltoppers.
