Hit batters: Spangler(1)
This was the best game of the season. It was the first of three must win games needed to qualify for the State Tournament. It was against arch rival Chatham who had whipped Summit in their first meeting. What's more there were two major league scouts at the game to watch Chatham ace, Pat Butler, pitch. Butler is going to UConn on a full athletic scholarship. With that as the setting, Eddie Hagan took the mound for Summit. Through 5 innings it remained a scoreless tie. Butler was pitching a no-hitter and Hagan had held Chatham to only 4 hits. Chatham had threatened in the bottom of 5th when they got 3 of their 4 hits to load the bases, But Tim Kane made a nice catch of a sinking line drive to end the inning.

In the top of the 6th Kenny Miller got Summit's first hit, a single, after one out. Following the 2nd out, Tim Spangler was hit by the pitcher, moving Miller into scoring position. Nick Orestanio came through with an RBI single to give Summit a 1-0 lead. Things really got tense in the Chatham 6th. The first batter was walked but was forced at 2nd for the first out. The next batter doubled to put runners on 2nd and 3rd with only one out. On the following infield ground ball the runner from 3rd tried to score, but was trapped in a rundown for the 2nd out. Hagan got the final out on a 1-3 ground ball.

In the top of the 7th Summit added an insurance run when Matt Rea drew a walk and moved to 3rd when Eric Forsell nailed the first pitch for a single. Rea scored on Tim Kane's sacrifice fly. Hagan put down the top of the Chatham order 1-2-3 to notch his 2nd straight complete game victory.
