Gill-St. Bernard was added to the regular season as something of a bonus game and it was one of the better games. Tom Casey was the starting pitcher and threw 3 good innings, striking out 4 and giving up only 1 hit. In the top of the 4th things became shaky. A walk and a single were followed by 2 more walks and a hit batter leading to a 2-0 lead. Kenny Miller took over in relief and picked up the final out.

Through four innings Gill-St. Bernard's pitcher had Summit completely stymied. Summit's only base runner was Matt Rea, who used his speed to beat out two infield ground balls. Their pitcher was throwing so well that he only had one batter out of 14 get the count to 2 balls. Summit finally got to him in the 5th inning. Eric Forsell led off by getting on base via an error, Tim Cotter singled and Ben Roessle doubled (it would have been a home run if it weren't for a stiff wind from left field) to score Forsell and Cotter to tie the score. Kane walked. With Roessle on third a suicide squeeze was called. The Gill-St. Bernard pitcher seemed to sense a squeeze and threw Rea a pitch that he wouldn't be able to reach. As a result Roessle had no chance. Subsequently Rea stroked a single to drive in Kane and give Summit the lead. After the second out, Tim Spangler hit a towering home run over the center field fence to score Rea and give Summit a 5-2 lead.

Gill-St. Bernard closed the gap to 5-4 with 2 unearned runs in the top of the 6th. Summit needed some insurance runs and got them in the bottom of the 6th. Miller singled to start the inning. Eric Forsell singled and and Tim Cotter doubled to drive in Miller. Forsell, on 3rd base, scored a second run on a wild pitch that went to the backstop. Miller shut down Gill-St. Bernard in the 7th to secure the victory.

Summit (11th seed) will meet Somerville (6th seed) on Monday in the 1st round of the State Tournament.
