Doubles: Hagan(1),Roessle(1)
|
The opening game of the season was played under some of the worst possible conditions. The temperature was in the low 40s and it alternated between a drizzle and a steady rain. With the score tied 4-4 after six innings, it was decided to call the game before someone got hurt. No one could remember a Summit baseball game ending in a tie before.
Parsippany Hills took the lead with 3 runs in the 2nd inning. Summit got one run back in the 3rd when Eddie Hagan led off with a double and scored on a Tim Kane single. Summit took the lead with 3 runs in the 4th. Matt DeWald got things started with a lead-off single. Kenny Miller walked and they were advanced to 2nd and 3rd by Nick Oristanio's sacrifice bunt. After a fly out, Ben Roessle doubled to drive in two runs. Tim Kane singled to put runners at the corners. Matt Rea drove a hard hit ball at the shortstop and he let it get through him to allow Roessle to score. Parsippany Hills managed to tie things up at 4 apiece in the 5th. In the bottom of the 6th Hagan led off with a walk, was sacrificed to second but never got any farther.
Evan Chang had a very good day on the mound. in spite of the rotten pitching conditions. Unfortunately he finished without getting a decision.
