Summit took advantage of a shaky start by Pingry's pitcher to load the bases on 3 walks with 1 out, but came up empty when a double play ended the inning. That turned out to be an indicator of things to come as Summit set something of a record by stranding 14 runners after receiving 10 walks. Pingry took 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st on a walk and 3 singles. Pingry made it 3-0 in the bottom of the 2nd off 2 singles and an infield out. Summit again loaded the bases with one out in the top of the 3rd on 2 walks and single, but again came up empty.The Hilltoppers finally got on the scoreboard in the 4th inning. Reid Van Syckle, Evan Chang and Kenny Miller each singled and combined with 3 Pingry errors to produce 3 runs and tie the game. Summit went up 6-3 in the 5th. Ben Roessle was safe when the right fielder dropped the ball. Van Syckle sacrificed Roessle to second and he scored on a singled by Tim Kane. Eddie Hagan walked and Matt Rea got on via a fielder's choice. A double by Chang and a single by Tim Cotter brought in 2 more runs to give Summit a 6-3 lead.
Pingry began the bottom of the 6th inning with a ground out but that was followed by two walks on 8 pitches. At this point Cotter was brought in relief. Eventually the two base runners would score before the inning ended with Summit ahead 6-5. Summit added an insurance run in the top of the 7th on a pair of walks and a sacrifice fly by pinch hitter Matt DeWald. Cotter shut down Pingry in the bottom of the 7th to preserve the victory.
