Summit manufactured 2 run in the top of 1st inning when Matt Rea and Tim Spangler were walked and Eric Forsell drove then both in with a single. That single was the only Summit hit until the 6th inning.
Eddie Hagan drew the starting pitcher assignment and was pitching well, but after the 2nd inning, for reasons unknown, he was replaced by Tim Cotter with the score Suumit 2 West Essex 1. Cotter pitched 3 inning. In each of the three innings Cotter got into some trouble, but each time he pitched his way out, giving up only one run over the 3 inning stretch. Tom Casey took over in the 6th inning and he was hit pretty hard. When the smoke cleared 6 runs had crossed the plate.
Summit managed only 3 hits over the 7 innings. The State seedings will be announced on Thursday night.
