Summit's victory over Chatham was a significant milestone in the rebirth of the Summit football program . It was the first victory over Chatham since 2004 and the first time since 2003 that Summit was assured of having at least four wins by the cutoff time for the State Tournament, a necessary condition to qualify.

The game got off to a scary start when Chatham ran the opening kickoff back to the Summit 17. Chatham quickly advanced to a 1st down at the Summit 5 yard line. It looked like their momentum would almost surely result in a touchdown. But, the Summit defense rose to the occasion and forced Chatham to settle for a field goal. Still, Summit was down 3-0. On the ensuing kickoff Dwaine Dabney took the ball on the Summit 2 and electrified the crowd by going 98 yards for a TD. Alex Melendez nailed the extra point Summit was on top 7-3. Lest we think it was going to be easy, Chatham proceeded to take the kickoff and return it for a touchdown. Fortunately, there was a holding penalty that brought the ball back to Chatham's 30 yard line. Undaunted, Chatham delivered a 14 play drive that led to a 1st down on the Summit 10 yard line. Again the Summit defense stiffened and again forced Chatham to settle for a field goal, The drive consumed almost all of the 1st quarter and Summit was yet to run a play from scrimmage. Summit finally got the ball with less than a minute left in the quarter. A 7 yard Dabney run and a 13 yard pass from Joe Jaskolski to Shawn Hillas gave Summit a first down on Summit's 44 as the quarter ended,

Dabney took the ball to the 47 and a great 43 yard run by Matt Rea gave Summit a 1st down at the Chatham 10. Dabney moved it to the 6 and Kevin McNany bulled his way to 2. Dabney carried it in for the touchdown. Melendez again kicked the extra point for a 14-6 lead. Chatham had three more possessions in the half but couldn't get beyond the Summit 28. The punt that followed their 3rd possession was weak and Summit had the ball on the Chatham 29. A pass to Rea took the ball to the Chatham 5 and two plays later Dabney carried it in for the score with only 30 seconds left in the half and Summit went to the locker room holding a 21-6 advantage.

That 3rd Summit TD seemed to take the air out of the Chatham offense as they were never able to advance beyond the Summit 20 yard line for the remainder of the game. Late in the 4th quarter Summit scored again on a 60 yard/10 play drive. The drive featured the running of Dabney and Rea with Dabney covering the final 17 yards.

Dabney rushed for 136 yards and had a pass for 22 yards for 158 yards of total offense. Rea accounted for 85 yards of Summit's total offense.
