Summit's season came to an end in Summit's first Sectional Semifinal since 2002, a measure of how far we have come in the last two years. Both teams scored four touchdowns and a field goal but Gov. Livingston won the game with five PAT points to Summit's one.

This could, and probably should, have ended differently. Summit had two golden opportunities to score in the 1st quarter, but came away with only 3 points. After smothering GL's opening possession, GL was forced to punt. Matt Rea took the punt on Summit's 40 yard line and returned it to the GL 27. A pass in the flat to Dwayne Dabney took it to the 19. After an incomplete pass, Dabney ran to the 15 for a first down. After a short rushing gain another pass to Dabney got Summit to the 10. Another incomplete pass forced Summit to settle for a 27 yard Alex Melendez field goal. On GL's next possession they had a 63 yard, 8 play drive, followed by a 2 point conversion to give Gov. Livingston an 8-3 lead. That 2 point PAT would ultimately spell the difference between winning and losing.

On the kick off Rea returned the ball 36 yards to the GL 44, giving Summit very good field position. After a loss of 3 yards, Joe Jaskolski hit Andre Torres for 41 yards to the GL 6 yard line. A great throw and great catch. Dabney ran it to the 2, but an attempt to sweep left lost 4 yards. An incomplete pass made it 4th down. The final pass attempt was intercepted in the endzone and Summit came away empty. Summit's next opportunity came when they recovered a GL fumble on the GL 36. Runs by Dabney and Rea yielded a 1st down at the 24. Three runs left it 4th and 6 at the GL 20. Jaskolski connected with Tim Kane to get another 1st down at the GL 8. Rea took it to the 1 and then bulled his way in on the next play. The 2 point conversion pass failed , but Summit was back on top 9-8

GL Scored the next two times they had the ball, both scores on big plays. The first was a 24 yard pass play and the 2nd was a 56 run. Suddenly Summit was down 21-9 with only a couple of minutes left on the 1st half clock. Summit started on their 20 following a GL kickoff. Jaskolski went deep to Torres, who had double coverage. The pass was right on the mark and Torres made a fantastic catch to give Summit a 1st down at the GL 41. With time running out Jaskolski again went deep to Torres. Again the pass was on target and again Torres somehow managed to leap high and snare the ball out of the hands of the two defenders. Now the ball was at the GL 6 yardline. On the next play Jaskolski passed to Rea who took it in for the score. The 2 point conversion attempt failed, but Summit went into the locker room down only 21-15.

The second half got off on the wrong foot when GL intercepted a pass and returned it to the Summit 38. The defense stiffened and forced a punt. Unfortunately Summit was eventually forced to punt into a very tough wind from their 14 yard line. That gave GL the ball on the Summit 39. On 4th and 10 from the Summit 27 Gov. Livingston connected on a 27 yard touchdown pass. The 2 point conversion was good and GL was up two TDs at 29-15. But Summit wasn't done. Starting in the Summit 37 a pass to Torres moved the ball to mid-field. Three runs by Rea gave Summit a 2nd down at the GL 28. From their Huck connected with Rea for a touchdown. The Melendez kick was good and the score was 29-22.

The final quarter began with GL driving on the ground toward the Summit goal. They picked up a 1st down at Summit's 19 yard line. Two runs and an incomplete pass made it 4th and 5 at Summit's 14 yard line. GL lined up for a field goal attempt , but it was a fake. Fortunately the pass was incomplete and a jubilant Summit took over on downs. The happiness was short lived because on the very next play GL intercepted a Summit pass and returned it ball to the Summit 6. The defense was great and stopped 3 runs cold. However, this time GL really did kick a 21 yard field goal

Summit's final score came after recovering a GL fumble on the GL 39. On 4th and 10 from the 39 Huck again connected with Torres to move the ball to the 18. A pass to Rea made it 1st and 10 at the 8 yard line. A pass to Thomas Baker took it to the 1 and Rea powered in for the score. The PAT kick was wide. The game ended 32-28

A word about the fan support, it was great. The band , the students and the fans turned out for the biggest show of support in this century.
