Summit and Dover both entered the game with 2-3 records, each hoping to exit with a .500 record. Dover had a hot hand in the first half . Every thing they tried worked. By contrast nothing worked for Summit. Dover left for the locker room with a 15 point lead (36-21) and things looked very bleak for the Hilltoppers. Jordan Healy had a strong 11 points in the half, TJ Hall contributed 6 points. The two accounted for 17 of Summits 21 points.
What a difference a half makes. In the 3rd quarter Summit outscored Dover 19-11 and cut the lead to 7 points. Thirteen of Summit's points came from Dave Newton who seemed to be all over the court scoring and disrupting the Dover offense. At the same time Healy stepped up his rebounding and eventually had a season high 12 rebounds, 7 coming in the 2nd half. Beginning the 4th quarter Newton remained hot, his 3 FGs and a pair of free throws by Matt Rea made it a 1 point game 49-48. With 5 minutes left Rea's 3-pointer gave Summit its first lead of the game. Kendall Baker added basket at the 4 minute mark. A Dover FG was answered by two Newton free throws with 2:19 on the clock. Now Summit was ahead 55-51. Another FG and free throw by Newton opened a 58-51 Summit lead with 1:49 left. Dover would get to within 6 points, but free throws down the stretch by Andre Torres and Healy sealed the come from behind victory.
Newton finished with 27 points to set Summit's season high. Healy scored 16 points.
