Summit played its best game of the season and survived a Holmdel rally for the victory. The 1st quarter ended tied 11-11. Summit got balanced contributions from Kendell Baker (5 pts), James Kennedy, Andre Torres, and Matt Wholly (2 pts each). The 2nd quarter scoring, however, was all David Newton as his 9 points propelled Summit to a 20-18 lead . Summit's defense held Holmdel to widen the lead to 33-24 at the end of 3 quarters. Again, Newton took charge early in the 4th with 7 straight points to make it a 10 point game (40-30). However, Holmdel put on an 11-2 run, aided by three consecutive Summit turnovers, to close to within 1 point (42-41) with 58 seconds remaining. Wholly connected on two crucial free throws and Newton got a fast break layup to make the score was 45-41 with 16 seconds left. Holmdel. managed to make it 45-43 at the 5 second mark, but Torres knocked down a free throw to put the game away.
