The Lady Hilltoppers traveled to Irvington to play in what will probably be remembered as their least favorite gym against a very tough Weequahic squad, looking to avenge an earlier loss to the Hilltoppers. But with Emily Cristaldi hitting all her shots in the quarter, and Alex Reid and Kate Martino chipping in with scores, Summit took a 12-8 first quarter lead. But a small court and some refs that we’ll just say weren’t as friendly to Summit as we would have hoped started to impact the game. Summit had little room to maneuver away from Weequahic’s guards, and on defense the small court allowed Weequahic numerous close in opportunities all game. Still, miraculously, Summit led 31-30 at the end of three, thanks to some timely scoring from Melissa Scott , Cassie Hall and Jenna Wilson. And when Reid hit a three to open up a 34-30 lead, Summit was in a good position. But some very questionable calls against Summit and a game full of non calls against the Tigers added up to a big quarter for Weequahic who streaked to a lead and never looked back. Cassie Hall and Reid had a strong day on the boards, Martino and Wilson continued their strong ball control, and Cristaldi hit shots, but it was just not enough to eke out a victory.
