This was a very big night for Summit football. The build-up to the game was almost unprecedented. Last year's loss to GL in the State Tournament only heightened the importance of the game. Played under temporary lights it attracted the largest crowd that the Tatlock Sports Complex had seen in 30 years.

Summit's offence got off to a slow start in the 1st quarter, but the defense stifled GL. On the 2nd Summit possession Summit moved from their 37 to a 1st and ten at the GL 13. The big plays were 16 yard pass from Joe Jaskolski to Peter Badgley and a 23 yard pass to Matt Rea There the drive stalled and ended with a a missed FG attempt. Things got rolling in the Summit's first possession on the 2nd quarter. Summit started on their 28 yard line and scored on 7 running plays, 3 by Dwaine Dabney and 4 by Rea. Rea went the final 29 yards to score. Alex Melendez kicked the first on his 5 successful extra points.

GL's next possession ended with the most inexplicable play call that most fans had ever seen. With 4th and 13 at the GL 11 yard line GL tried a fake punt pass that went incomplete and Summit got the ball just 11 yards from the endzone. Three plays later Dabney was in the endzone and suddenly Summit was ahead 14-0. Late in the 2nd quarter Jake Hall made his 3rd interception of the year and returned it 43 yards to the GL 12. On the next play Dabney scored to give Summit a 21-0 lead. GL's final possession of the half was was aided by two 15 yard penalties against Summit that allowed GL 's Anderson to kick a 25 yard field goal. Summit went to the locker with a solid 21-3 advantage.

GL's second possession threw a bit of a scare at the Summit fans. GL mounted its only sustained drive of the game, going 61 yards in 9 plays for what would be their only TD of the game. Fortunately, Summit took the kickoff and restored order when Jaskolski connected with Shawn Hillas for a 36 yard TD strike. It was a 74 yard drive that featured two carries by Dabney and two by Jaskolski that set up the pass to Hillas. Summit entered final quarter with a nice 28-10 lead. Midway through the 4th quarter Summit pretty much ran out the clock with an 8 play drive, all on the ground, that relied primarily on the running of Dabney and Rea. Rea went the final 18 yards for Summit's final score.

Summit's defense deserves some special credit as they kept up amazing pressure on the GL's quarterback, registering six sacks and holding GL to a net of 131 yards.

Thousands of Summit fans left the stands deliriously happy .
