Summit went to Shabazz to play for the Sectional Championship. The Hilltoppers knew they would have to be at their best since Shabazz was arguably the best public school team in the State. Emily Cristaldi's eight 1st quarter points kept Summit in the game, but still Shabazz had a 19-12 advantage . The 2nd quarter saw Shabazz open an 11 point lead mid-way through the 2nd quarter. Summit fans were worrying that a blowout might be building. But Summit came roaring back . Cristaldi hit a pair of treys (the 3rd and 4th of her consecutive 3-pointers), a basket by Cassie Hall and another by Olivia Galuppo and Summit closed to within 2 points. The quarter ended with Shabazz ahead by 4 points, and hope filled the Summit fan's hearts.
Unfortunately Shabazz turned up the defensive heat in the 3rd quarter and forced 12 Summit turnovers as they raced to a 24 point quarter. Summit was held to only a pair of Kelly Osmulski free throws and Summit fell behind 54-28. Shabazz had essentially put the game out of reach. Summit held their own in the final quarter as Hall scored 7 of her 10 points and Cristaldi added 2 of her game high 19 points.
As each starter was replaced by players from the bench they were greeted with a standing ovation. The Hilltopper fans thanked the team for a wonderful season. There were a few tears, a lot of cheers and a clear understanding by the fan's that, through the season, they had witnessed a spectacular performance by a very talented team of players.
