Summit moved on to the sectional finals by defeating Willingboro. Interestingly,Willingboro started three freshmen and two of the three accounted for 32 of their 37 points. As in the previous game Summit got off to a very slow start. To add to the problem Emily Cristaldi picked up 2 quick fouls and went to the bench. She didn't return until mid-way through the 2nd quarter. Willingboro took an early 4-2 lead before Summit rallied behind Kelly Osmulski's 5 points to exit the quarter with a 9-4 lead. Summit gathered strength in the 2nd quarter aided by 5 points from Cassie Hall and 4 points from Kate Martino. Cristaldi picked up a late basket to make the half time score 20-11. The 3rd quarter started well as the lead grew to 11 points and the Summit fans were beginning to smell a blowout. It was not to be, as Willingboro rallied to get to within 4 points before 3-pointers by Cristaldi and Martino made the score 32-26 starting the the 4th quarter.
A field goal and a free throw by Willingboro was answered by a Martino basket, but 2 baskets by Willingboro closed the gap to a single point. A Cristaldi trey was answered by a Willingboro FG. With 2:48 left Kelly Osmulski hit on 2 free throws and Cassie Hall scored. Suddenly the lead was back to 6. The score remained 41-35 until 33 seconds were left when the Willingboro bench was hit with a technical foul. Cristaldi drained both foul shots to give Summit an 8 point lead to ice the game.
Summit will meet Shabazz on Monday at 5PM @ Shabazz for the Sectional Crown.
