You might be tempted to look at the final score and believe this was a blowout. It wasn't. Kenny Miller was in good form. In fact, he gave up only three hits over the 4 1/3 innings he pitched. Unfortunately, three runs in the first inning (one of them unearned) put Summit in a bad hole and significantly added to Miller's pitch count. That resulted in Miller being relieved by James Baumeister part way through the 5th inning, even though at the time Miller.

In the top of the 4th Summit pulled to within one run. With one, out Nick Oristanio singled. A flyball to center made it two outs. Matt DeWald singled and Pat Birosak walked to load the bases. A single by Joe Weil drove in two runs and Summit was back in the ball game at 3-2. That is the way it was until the bottom of the 5th inning when when Mt. Lakes got their first two earned runs to make the score 5-2.

Summit threatened in the 6th. DeWald had a leadoff single and Birosak was again walked. A fielder's choice moved DeWald to third. With runner's at 1st and and 3rd with one, the next batter struck out and a 4-3 ground out ended the inning,

Reid Van Syckle pinch hit in the Summit 7th and got a one out single, but nothing further came of it.
