Summit gave notice of what was to come by teeing off on the Union Catholic starter from get-go. Matt Rea doubled as the lead off hitter. Reid Van Sykle singled and Nick Orestanio blasted a ball over the center field fence to give Summit a 3-0 lead. It was said that this was the first ball hit out of the park since the new UC artificial turf diamond was built two years ago. Ben Roselle promptly tripled and was driven in by a Matt DeWald sacrifice fly. Summit added 3 more in the 2nd when Rea doubled again to start a two out rally. Van Sykle was hit and Oristanio, Roessle and DeWald singled.

The 3rd inning yielded 2 more runs. Joe Weil singled and Rea stroked a drive in the center-right gap and used his speed to produce an inside the park home run. One more run was added in the 4th inning as the result of singles by Roessle, Kenny Miller and Jay Crisfield. Summit added 2 unearned runs in the 5th without a single hit. The final run came in the 7th when Oristanio tripled and scored on a Roessle single. All in all, a big day at the plate.

Miller was the starting pitcher and struggled to find the plate. He allowed only one hit but gave up 3 runs because of two walks, a hit batter and an error. His struggle continued in the 2nd and UC scored another run on just one single and back to back walks to start the inning. As a result Miller's pitch count reached 58 after only two innings. Miller began to find his grove by the end of the 2nd inning and over the next 3 innings allowed no runs and gave up only 1 more hit. Pat Birosak pitched the 6th inning and faced only 3 batters. Jack Mulcahy pitched the 7th and held UC scoreless and hitless.
