Oh what a difference error free defense makes. Pat Birosak took his record to 4-0 with some solid pitching and offensive and defensive help from his team mates. The infield was rock solid with Joe Weil, Ben Roessle and Chris George making some fine stops and Jay Crisfield making a number of great saves at 1st base.

Summit picked up 2 unearned runs in the 1st when Matt Rea was hit, Kenny Miller was safe on a error and both scored on an error by the 2nd baseman. Union Catholic answered with a run in the top of the 2nd and 2 more in the top of the 3rd for a 3-2 lead. In the bottom of the 4th Summit made 2 quick outs before George and Weil got things started with a walk and a single. Rea continued the rally with a hard hit single that got past the center fielder and allowed 2 runs to score and the speedy Rea to end up on 3rd base. Miller was hit by the pitcher and Nick Oristanio single to drive in Rea. Roessle came to the plate with two men on. He promptly hit the first pitch over the left field fence, a 3 run homer. The inning ended with Summit up 8-3. Summit made it 9-3 from two singles, by George and Weil.

Union Catholic scored twice in the top of the sixth and Summit added 2 insurance runs in the bottom of the 6th. Miller led off with a double and Roessle was safe on a error. A deep single by Dewald drove in both base runners. As a result Summit carried an 11-5 lead into the top of the 7th.

However, the UC final at bat was not without drama. Jack Mulcahy came on in relief to start the 7th. He dispensed with the first batter with three straight strikes and things were looking good. Unfortunately, the next 3 batters were walked to load the bases with 1 out. At this point James Baumeister took over the mound. He was promptly met with a 2 RBI single. Now one more base runner would bring the tieing run to the plate. Baumeister struck out the next batter on four pitches and got the next batter to ground out to allow Crisfield to earn the save.
