Union was the home team but the game was played at Summit's Memorial Field. Union broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the 6th inning with 3 runs. Summit came to bat in the 7th inning needing 3 runs to stay alive. Joe Weil and Pinch hitter Pat Birosak got on base on consecutive infield errors. Matt Rae singled to drive in Weil and moved Birosak to 3rd. At this point Union went to a new pitcher who promptly walked Kenny Miller to load the bases. A wild pitch allowed Birosak to score from third and Rea came home from 2nd base in the course of the confusion. This tied the score at 5-5.
Oristanio was walked and a double by Ben Roessle scored Miller to give Summit the go ahead run . Singles by Matt Dewald and Jay Crisfield drove in two more runs to make the score 8-5 heading into the bottom of the 7th. Miller took the mound for the 7th inning and closed out Union 1-2-3 to secure the victory.
Jay Crisfield was the starting pitcher and went 5 1/3 innings. Crisfield was in command of the game, but after a walk, an out and a double in the 6th James Baumeister came on in relief and got the final two outs but not before 2 more runs had scored.
This was the final regular season game at Memorial Field. Summit will meet Matawan in the NJSIAA Sectional Quarterfinals at 2PM on Friday at Memorial.
