Summit took on Johnson, the weakest team in the conference, and had many opportunities to put the game away. Yet, in a wild and crazy 4th quarter, just barely escaped. Summit repeatedly built its lead and appeared on the way to an easy victory. But each time Summit let Johnson back into the game. Starting the 4th quarter The Hilltoppers held a 5 point lead. After a Johnson FG cut it to 3, Shawn Hillas scored and Dwaine Dabney hit 2 free throws to make the score 38-31. Summit and Johnson traded baskets and then traded a pair of free throws. Johnson scored again and Hillas answered with a field goal. So with about 2 minutes remaining Summit held a 7 point lead. This was quickly cut to 2 points by a Johnson FG and a 3-pointer. Now the clock was at 1:15. David Newton made a nice layup at 0:45 but Johnson answered with 23 seconds left. On Summit's inbound Johnson quickly fouled Matt Wholey, but the referees decided it was a jump ball. Johnson got the ball by virtue of the possession arrow. Fortunately, Cris Cafiero intercepted the inbounds pass. Naturally Johnson quickly fouled and Summit went to the line with only 8 second left. Sadly, both foul shots were missed but by the time Johnson wrestled possession there were only 3 seconds on the clock. They threw a shot the length of the court, the buzzer sounded and Summit's fans could relax. But wait, the refs claimed that the Johnson shooter was fouled on the 75 foot shot that had no chance of going in That meant that Johnson sent their best player to the line with 3 foul shots and a chance to win the game. The first try bounced out but the 2nd try was nothing but net. Would it be overtime or victory? The final shot rolled around the rim and fell harmlessly out.

Hillas led the Summit scoring with 13 points and four other players had significant scoring. Matt Wholey was working hard all game a pulled down 14 rebounds
