Summit still had to deal with missing starters. Shawn Hillas was dressed but was only available for limited service. David Newton was on the disabled list and may not be available until the end of February. As a result , the revised starting lineup included both Matt Wholey and Ryan O'Malley, our two tallest players. This turned out to be very successful and the two combined for 26 (Wholey 14 and O'Malley 12) rebounds and they dominated the back boards. Summit had eked out a 1 point victory the first time these teams met, but tonight it was a different story. Summit took lead from the start and ended the 1st quarter ahead be 12. While Johnson got to within 5 in the 3rd quarter, Summit came right back, helped by a pair of 3-pointers by Matt Rea, and ended the quarter ahead by 11. Down the stretch Dwaine Dabney and O'Malley each made 5 of 6 free throws.
O'Malley led Summit scorers with 15 points. Dabney and Cris Cafiero were close behind with 12 points.
Summit will meet Johnson for the 3rd time on Sunday in the Preliminary Round of the Union County Tournament.
