The relatively few Summit fans who made the 1:20 minute drive to Vernon were feeling rather good. With 4 minutes left in the game Summit held a comfotable 12 point lead. However, the game turned ugly when Minisink drained 2 3-pointers and a field Goal to pull to within 4 points. Newton restored some order with 4 free throws, but 7 unanswered points by Minisink made it a 1 point game .Summit hit on 3 of 6 free throws and Minisink picked up a field goal and with less than 10 seconds remaining. Minisink brought the ball down to try to tie the score. They got off a shot at the 4 second mark that missed but Minisink got the rebound at put the ball back up. It didn't go in but again they got the rebound as the buzzer sounded they they shot again and it went in to send the game to overtime. The overtime was all Minisink hit 9 of twelve free throws to clinch the game. In the final analysis free throws made the difference.

In the final seconds of regulation play Summit made only 3 of 7 free throw attempts. Sinking 1 of the four missed attempts would have won the game for Summit. David Newton had 23 points and Shawn Hillas scored 19 to lead Summit . Those two players accounted for 42 of Summits 59 points.
