Summit and Oratory Prep met in basketball for the first time in at least a decade. Both teams had almost identical record, Summit 8-10 and Oratory 8-11. It was really a dog fight with the biggest lead in the game being six points. Every time Summit would pull ahead Oratory would answer with a run. Summit started the 4th quarter with a 1 point lead. Matt Rea hit a field goal and a free throw to give Summit a 4 point advantage,. But Oratory answered with 7 points to lead by three. And so it went, The lead changed hand three more times and with 3 minutes to go it was tied at 54. A 3-pointer by Cris Cafiero and two free throws by Ryan O'Malley put Summit up by 3 at the 1:54 mark. A basket by Oratory was matched by two free throws by Rea. So with 42 seconds to go Summit was ahead by 3 points. Unfortunately the defense allowed a virtually uncontested layup by Oratory. A free throw by Cafiero gave Summit a 2 point lead, but Oratory tied the game with 12 seconds left and the game went to overtime.
Oratory scored the first 6 points of the overtime and summit spent the rest of the time trying to play catchup.
Cafiero led the Summit scoring with 20 points. Rea (11 points) and Dabney (10 points) were the others in double digits. Wholey had 8 rebounds and O'Malley seven.
