8:30 Wt. In 		  @Vernon 10:00AM Summit High School's wrestling team participated in a varsity quad meet on December 19, 2009 at Vernon High School, Summit's first varsity-level competition in the sport in about 15 years.  Summit's team, featuring mostly underclassmen, lost all three matches by the following team scores: Vernon 68 Summit 12, Pascack Hills 60 Summit 19 and Westwood 60 Summit 9. 

Summit's top performer was sophomore Chris Chavez at 152 pounds, with two victories by pin over opponents from Vernon and Pascack Hills.  Other Summit wrestlers winning their first varsity matches were freshman Andrew George at 103 lbs with a pin against Pascack Hills, freshman Andre Zeledon at 130 lbs with a pin against Westwood, freshman Nick Abbott at 135 lbs with a 3-1 decision against Pascack Hills, senior Nadher Tabash at 140 lbs with a pin against Pascack Hills, freshmen AJ Iarussi at 171 lbs with a pin again Vernon and senior Jake Loeffler at 189 lbs with a 5-3 decision against Westwood.
Mon 12/28 Brick Freshmen "Wresting Zoo" Away Summit High School’s freshman wrestlers participated in the Wrestling Zoo at Brick Memorial High School on December 28, 2009. With more than 15 schools in attendance, the competition was intense.

Summit’s Nick Abbott was crowned champion at 136 pounds, winning three matches. After winning his first round match 10-3, Abbott won the semi-finals by pinning Alberto Medal of Neptune in 2:00. The final match pitted Abbott against Drew Donner of Wall, and the match continued into quadruple over time before Abbott’s scoring move gave him a 5-2 victory and the first place medal. Other Summit freshman who won matches at Brick were Andrew George, Elgin Ravenell, Andre Zeldon, Aj Iarussi, Joe Lasarcino, and Manuel Navas.
Wed 12/30 Doc Lane Holiday Tournament
(JV & Freshmen)		 Woodbridge 9:00AM Summit High School's wrestling team participated in the Doc Lane Holiday Wrestling Tournament at Woodbridge High School on December 30, 2009 and came home with six medals. Summit’s champions were Nick Abbott at 135 pounds and AJ Iarussi at 160 pounds, both in the freshman division. Iarussi dominated his class, pinning Sidney Sarana of Ridge in 30 seconds in the first round, beating Joshua Batista of Perth Amboy 15-2 in the semi-finals and pinning Manny Perez of Perth Amboy in 36 seconds in the finals to earn the first place medal.

Abbott won his first match 5-2 over Muhab Elgamad of Old Bridge, scored a takedown with 17 seconds remaining to score a 3-2 victory in the semi-finals over Jeff Jackum of Old Bridge, and then came from behind in the third period of the finals to pin Guiermo Munez of Edison at 4:08 to earn championship honors.

Summit had three second place finishes from Ronnie Barquero in the freshman 125 pound division, Nadher Tabash in the junior varsity 140 pound division, and Jake Loeffler in the junior varsity 189 pound division. Chris Chaves placed third in the junior varsity 152 pound division and Andre Zeledon took fourth in the freshman 130 pound class. Mon 01/04 JV Festival    J.P.Stevens 5:00PM Summit's wrestling team participated in a JV wrestling festival in Edison, competing against wrestlers from JP Stevens and Middlesex high schools, and won 2/3 of their matches.  Summit's top performer was freshman Andrew George, who won three matches, all by pin.  Junior Zach Tolles and freshman Diego Barquero both won two matches.

Sat 01/09 JV Tournament Delaware Valley TBA Summit High School's wrestling team participated in the Delaware Valley Team JV Tournament on January 9, 2009, competing against wrestlers from 19 New Jersey and Pennsylvania high school programs. 

Top Summit honors went to Mike Steinberg at 215 pounds and Manuel Navas at 160 pounds, who both brought home second place medals.  Steinberg pinned opponents from Laurenceville and Hopewell Valley before being defeated in the finals, while Navas won decisions over opponents from Hopewell Valley and Union to get to the finals.  Summit's other place winners were Elgin Ravenell who finished third at 125 pounds, AJ Iarussi who finished third at 160 pounds and Nadher Tabash who was fourth at 140 pounds.  Other Summit wrestlers winning matches at the tournament were Andrew George at 103 pounds, Nick Abbott at 135 pounds and Todd Welsh at 145 pounds.

Summit hosted a match Saturday January 16, 2010 and came away with its first varsity wrestling team win in about 15 years, defeating Weequahic 48-18.  Summit's upperclassmen led the way,with pins recorded by seniors Jake Loeffler and Mike Steinberg, junior Zach Tolles and sophomore Chris Chavez.  The full box score for the match follows:

Fri 01/22 Westfield JV Home 4:00PM Westfield won 13 of 19 matches (including exhibitions) in a JV matchup at Summit High School on January 22, 2010.  Summit freshman Diego Barquero won two matches by pinning both of his Westfield opponents.  Other Summit victories were pins recorded by senior Mike Steinberg, freshman AJ Iarussi and freshman Andre Zeledon and a 5-2 decision by freshman Nick Abbott.
Sat 01/23 Scotch Plains JV Home Scotch Plains-Fanwood won 13 of 20 matches (including exhibitions) in a JV matchup at Summit High School on January 23, 2010.  Summit sophomore Chris Chavez won two matches by pinning both of his Scotch Plains opponents.  Other Summit victories were pins by freshman Diego Barquero, freshman AJ Iarussi and freshman Andre Zeledon, a 7-2 decision by senior Jake Loeffler and a disqualification win by freshman Nick Abbott.
Tue 01/26 Seton Hall JV Away 4:00PM Won 38-33 Summit came from well behind in a home JV matchup against Seton Hall Prep, winning 6 of the last 7 bouts (5 by pin) to score a 38-33 team victory.  Freshman Nick Abbott won two bouts, the first by a 3-2 score and the second with a pin in the final bout of the evening to give Summit the team score advantage for the first time.  Other Summit wrestlers recording pins were senior Todd Welsh, sophomore Chris Chavez, senior Jake Loeffler and freshman Elgin Ravenell.

Sun 01/31 UCT JV Tournament Brearley TBA Summit High School's wrestling team participated in the Union County JV Wrestling Tournament on January 31, 2010 at the David Brearley High School in Kenilworth. 

Summit had three individual placewinners, led by freshman Nick Abbott who won the championship at 135 pounds.  On his way to the title, Abbott pinned Dom Pigna of Scotch Plains-Fanwood in 0:37 in the quarter-finals, defeated Jey Yingling of Westfield 4-3 in the semi-finals, and then won the finals by pinning Louis Rotola of Linden in 3:47. 

Summit's other placewinners were freshman AJ Iarussi, who won the 3rd place medal at 160 pounds and senior Mike Steinberg, who was 4th place at 215 pounds.  Iarussi won his quarter-final match 10-1 over Carlos Daza of Rahway, lost a close semi-final bout to the undefeated eventual champion Rick Quant of Governor Livingston, and then secured the 3rd place honors by pinning Terrance Tiller of Linden.
Mon 02/01 JP Stevens - JV Festival  Away 5:00PM Summit's wrestling team participated in a JV wrestling festival in Edison, competing against wrestlers from JP Stevens, Middlesex, Matawan, Ridge and Scotch Plains.  Summit won 11 of 17 matches, with sophomore Cris Chavez and freshman Diego Barquero each winning twice.  The results were as follows:

Fri 02/19 NJSIAA District 10 @ Millburn Away 9:00AM For the first time since the mid-1990s, Summit's wrestlers participated in the varsity District 10 tournament held at Millburn High School on February 19th.  Senior Bill Brennan and freshman AJ Iarussi won preliminary round matches, with Brennan pinning a Chatham opponent in the 173 pound class and Iarussi winning a 10-2 major decision over a Columbia opponent in the 162 pound class.  The full results for Summit's wrestlers were as follows:
