Hillside 6 12 0 0 18

Summit had a disastrous first half as they squandered 3 of their 5 possessions via turnovers (two interceptions and a fumble). Two of the turnovers led to Hillside scores and left the Hilltoppers trailing 18-7 at half time. Fortunately, Summit came out with their guns blazing in the 2nd half and scored on each of their three 3rd quarter possessions to put the game out of reach.

On Summit's 2nd possession Hillside intercepted a Bringewatt pass and returned it to the Summit 39. On Hillside's 3rd play they connected for 24 yard scoring strike. Hillside missed the the extra point, but Summit was behind for the first time this season. Summit bounced back with a 50 yard drive, all on the ground, with AJ Iarussi scoring on a 9 yard run. Mike Badgley kicked the first of his 4 perfect extra points and Summit was in front 7-6, but not for long. Summit took the kickoff and was moving well on the ground into Hillside territory when another interception gave the ball to Hillside on their 8 yardline. A 52 yard run and a 38 yard pass play put Hillside back on top 12-7. On the ensuing kickoff Kyre Negron returned the ball 31 yards to the Summit 46. Two runs by Negron and a 30 yard pass to Peter Badgley had Summit on the Hillside's 10 with a 1st down. Two Ryan Bringewatt runs moved it to the 1 yard line as the clock was winding. On the next play the ball came loose at the one and was picked up by a Hillside lineman and returned 99 yards for a TD. The half ended 18-7, and Hillside had all the momentum. A lot of worried Summit fans wondered how the team would react to the turn of events.

Well, the Hilltoppers made a emphatic statement when the took the kickoff and marched 72 yards in 7 running plays. Negron scored from the 23 to close the gap to 18-14. Unfortunately, Bringewatt suffered a shoulder injury in the drive and was unable to see any more action. The Summit defense really stepped up and forced Hillside to go 3 and out. Hillside's punter got off a poor punt that gave Simmit the ball on their 34. Five plays later Summit was on the 10 and Negron again took it into the endzone to put Summit back on top 21-18. Summit's final score came when Hillside fumbled on their 24 and Summit took possession. Three plays later Negron scored from the 14 yardline to make the score 28-18, and seal the victory.
