Summit survived a wild 2nd half to keep its unbeaten record intact. The first half was scoreless as Summit turned the ball over on three of it first 5 possessions. The first possession via an interception, the 2nd by a fumble at the Johnson 8 yard line and the 5th possession by a fumble at the Johnson 23. Fortunately, Johnson responded with a couple of turnovers and didn't seriously mount a scoring threat. However, the second half was a different story.

The 2nd half started with Summit kicking off. Johnson returned the kick 69 yards to the Summit 21. After 2 running plays, Johnson scored the first points of the game on a 15 yard pass. After Summit was forced to Punt on its possession, Johnson launched a 12 play drive that stalled out on the Summit 12 yardline. With 4th and 5 Johnson tried a 29 yard field goal, but it went wide. As the game unfolded this missed FG would be a key play. The 3rd quarter ended with Johnson on top 7-0.

After playing three quarters with only 7 points being scored, the 4th quarter would feature a barrage of 34 points. Summit started a drive on their 20 and moved to a 1st down at the Johnson 42 behind a 23 yard run by AJ Iarussi and a 10 yard gain by Tyler Carbone , who had entered the game when Kyre Negron was injured. After a loss of 5 yards and an incomplete pass Carbone hit Ryan O'Malley with a pass. O'Malley made a great catch and then turned on the after burner to out run the Johnson defender to the goal line. The Mike Badgley kick was good and Summit was back in the game at 7-7. But it wouldn't last long. Summit tried a surprise on-side kick that failed and gave Johnson the ball at mid field. After two running plays went nowhere, the Johnson QB threw a deep strike for a 48 yard TD. The kick was good and Summit again was behind by 7. Summit returned the kickoff to their 22. Carbone hit Luke Stephens for a gain of 28 yards. Stephens make a spectacular catch to give Summit a 1st down at the Johnson 49. On the next play Carbone went deep to Sal Liberato who accelerated hard to catch the ball, broke a tackle and then did an amazing job of staying in bounds as he made it to the end zone. Summit was again tied at 14-14.

But there was much more to come. After forcing Johnson to go 3 and out, Summit took possession on their 47. Three carries by Carbone and one by Iarussi. picked up a couple of 1st downs. On 1st down at the Johnson 32, Iarussi bulled his way through the line, broke through the secondary and raced 32 yards to give Summit its first lead of the game. This came with 5:13 remaining in the game and the Summit fans were beginning to feel comfortable for the the first time. But it was not to be. After the score, Summit was hit with a 15 yard penalty which was assessed on the next kick off. That meant Summit had to kick off from their 25 yard line. As a result Johnson got the ball close to mid field. Johnson quickly got a first down on the Summit 30 but a series on deep passes fell incomplete and Summit got the ball back with 2 1/2 minutes left. Johnson used its time outs to stop the clock and Summit had to punt on 4th and 1.

Johnson got the ball back with less than 2 minutes on the clock. Staying strictly in the air Johnson picked up a 1st down on their 49 yard line. After an incomplete pass a Johnson receiver beat the Summit defense and hauled in a 51 yard pass to make the score Summit 21 - Johnson 20. Johnson lined up and kicked the tieing extra point. But wait, Summit was called for a procedure penalty and the kick was nullified. With the ball now on the 1.5 yardline Johnson decided to skip the risk of overtime an go for a 2 point play. Win or lose right now. The Summit defense was packed in and there was a tremendous pile of football players on the goal line. Summit players signaled "no TD" and the Johnson signaled they had won the game. While the referees untangled the pile of players the Summit fans were tense. In the end the referees signaled no score and Summit had escaped.

AJ Iarussi led Summit's running game with 94 yards in 14 carries. Tyler Carbone hit on 3 of 5 passes for 2 TDs and 128 yards. He also rushed for 42 yards. Summit held an advantage in total yards 370 to 255.
