Talk about anticipation! There hasn't been this much excitement about a regular season game since the beloved Suburban Conference dissolved over a quarter century ago. It was New Providence vs. Summit and both team were unbeaten. It was a glorious Fall day and the stands were filled to capacity. Let the game begin and it did with a bang. Kyre Negron returned the opening kick off 64 yards to the NP 21 yard line. Four plays later Ryan Bringewatt connected with Ryan O'Malley for a 12 yd Touchdown. Naturally, with Mike Badgley doing the kicking, the extra point was good. Summit fans were elated. Unfortunately, three plays later NP's Barletta busted loose for an 85 yard run to score (it is worth noting that those 85 yards eventually represented 63% of NP's total rushing yardage). The extra point was missed so Summit remained on top 7-6.

Summit terminated NP's next possession when Andrew Miller intercepted a pass on Summit's 15 yard line. Summit was forced to punt and the Summit defense against the run looked good so NP went to the air and hit Barletta with a 46 yard scoring pass and suddenly Summit was down 12-7 (NP had failed in a 2 point conversion attempt). On the following kickoff the ball was fumbled and Summit started from the 12. On the first play New Providence intercepted on the Summit 22. It took NP 8 plays to go those 22 yards, but score they did. With less than a minute gone in the 2nd quarter Summit was trailing 19-7. That's not how it was supposed to be! The Summit stands were full of very anxious fans.

But, at this point the whole game turned around. Summit took the kickoff and, except for one key pass from Tyler Carbone to R. O'Malley, relied on the smash mouth running by AJ Iarussi and Bringewatt to score. Iarussi took it in the final 5 yards. Summit went for two on a pass from T. Carbone to Sal Liberato. Whew! Now the score was 19-15. The defense rose to the occasion and forced New Providence to go 3 and out, but a good punt forced Summit to start the drive from its own 14. Fourteen plays later Summit had driven 86 yards on the ground to score. Bringewatt, Iarussi and T. Carbone shared the running burden. With Mike Badgley's extra point the stars were realigned and Summit was on top to stay 22-19. However, at the time the fans didn't know that the Summit Defense was going to put on an awesome display and hold New Providence scoreless. After scoring 3 TDs in the first 13 minutes NP was held scoreless for the final 35 minutes. Justin Cyrus' interception broke up New Providence's last possession of the 1st half and Negron's interception did the same in the 2nd half.

In the second half Summit ground out two more TDs and completely dominated the game, running the ball 21 times to only 2 pass plays. However, one of those two passes was a great pass from T. Carbone to S. Liberato that covered 45 yards and a TD.

Ryan O'Malley was his usual tower of strength he caught two key passes, one for a TD, made 7 tackles (5 for a loss) and registered 3 sacks.
