A victory is a victory no matter how ugly it might have been. Andrew Oristanio started on the mound and pitched a strong first four innings, allowing only one run on three hits. As the rain continued and the balls got even wetter, the pitching became increasingly difficult. The final two innings was highlighted by walks, hit batters, and pitches soaring over the catchers to the backstop and an occasional hit.

Summit took a 1-0 lead in the 1st as the result of a single by Nick Oristanio and a double by Matt DeWald. Brearley tied it up in the top of the 2nd on a couple of singles that more alert play might have been outs. Summit regained the lead in the bottom of the 2nd. Freshman Tanner Fulton singled, stole 2nd and scored on Joe Weil's single. Summit made the score 3-1 in the 4th on back-to-back singles by Kyle Fries and Matt Scheer.

Brearley Tied the game with two runs in 5th. A leadoff walk, a wild pitch, a single, a hit batter, an error and a fielder's choice allowed the two runs to score. James Baumeister took over the pitching duties in the 6th, but couldn't seem to get the slippery ball into the strike zone. The result was another Brealey run without a hit. Mike Nitzberg took over and got the final out of the inning. So Summit found itself behind for the first time in the game.

Brearley's relief pitcher wasn't immune from the affects of the slippery ball and started off the Summit 6th with three consecutive walks to load the bases. A throwing error by the catcher tied the game. A single by Nick Oristanio drove in two more runs. Oristanio eventually scored on an error by the pitcher. So Summit was back on top 7-4 and Brearley had only one more at bat.

That last at bat started badly for Summit when the first batter walked and the next batter was hit by a pitch. After two outs, the number #6 hitter singled to center to knock in two runs and went to second when the ball was misplayed. Now the score was 7-6. The next batter drew a walk and the tension was rising. The count went full on the next batter and every one was holding their breath. Happily, the next pitch was a strike and the game was over.

In the final 3 at bats (two by Brearley and one by Summit) seven runs were scored on only 2 hits.
