Things started well for the Hilltoppers. Summit scored 2 runs in the 1st inning and another in the 3rd inning. Meanwhile, Travis Barr was also off to a fine start, allowing only 2 hits and no runs over those same 3 innings. Then came one of those inning that is best forgotten. In the bottom of the 4th Brearley chalked up 7 runs on but 4 hits. They were aided by 3 Summit errors and a couple bad decisions in the field. Curtis Slaght took over the pitching late in the inning. Barr pitched much better than the score would indicate. He left the game after giving up only 5 hits, no walks and 3 strikeouts.

Summit responded to the challenge by scoring 3 runs in the 5th to close the gap to a single run with two innings left. Now the key was to hold Brearley scoreless for the final two innings. But it was not to be. In the bottom of the 6th Brearley manged to get runners on 1st and 2nd via a single and a walk. Brearley called for a double steal and pulled it off. Then a wild pitch and some sloppy play led the rare event of both runner's scoring and making the score 9-6. Brearley brought in a new pitcher for the 7th and he shut Summit down.

Summit's two runs in the first came when Kyle Fries singled, Nick Orestanio hit a triple to drive in Fries and Matt Scheer drove in Oristanio with an infield ground ball. A run was added in the 3rd. Joe Weil led off by being hit by the pitcher and stole second. N.Oristanio drew a walk and and Weil eventually scored on a fielder's choice. The three run 5th started by Fries and Oristanio each drawing walks. A single by Scheer drove in Fries, Another single by Jamie Kennedy drove in Oristanio and a single by Slaght brought Scheer home.
