Summit opened the 2011 season against Dayton under a sullen sky for what turned out to be a pitcher's duel. James Baumeister took the mound and gave up only 4 hits and 2 runs over the 6 innings he pitched. Unfortunately, Dayton's leftie scattered five Summit hits and gave up only one run, in spite of Dayton's four errors.

Dayton took a one run lead in the top of the first when two walks were coupled with Summit's only error of the day to produce a run. Except for this initial error, the Summit infield was flawless as they handled 14 of the 18 remaining outs without error.

Summit tied the game in the 3rd inning. With one out, Nick Abbott was safe on an error by the shortstop and then stole second. Nick Oristanio delivered an RBI single. Dayton regained the lead in 4th when they manufactured a run with a single, a walk and two infield outs. Summit failed to mount a threat over the final 4 innings.

Joe Weil was strong at shortstop and produced a string of outs that no one could remember seeing before. All three Dayton batters in the 2nd inning were out 6-3. Then to top it off the leadoff batter in the next inning was also out 6-3.
